From what I understand .xsession is only read when logging in with xdm, the graphical login manager, so .xinitrc is the correct file to edit, as others have mentioned. Hello, Did you edit your ~/.xinitrc with your user? Try this: exec gnome-session and put it in this file: /home/youruser/.xinitrc where "youruser" is your username.
