I would give a try to wscite, http://www.scintilla.org/. It's a nice graphical editor, very configurable, supports almost any language syntax hihglighting, supports multitabbed windows and runs on unixes and windows. You can configure it to use different compilers, for example I configured it on windows to easily compile C# programs. In a word you should see it.
