You are right about USB and probably about fullscreen mode. seamless 
mode works at least for Windows.

You might have problems with using virtual SMP.

for Guest OS Windows XP Pro SP2 : 
 
I used to mount usb  disc drives, outside of VB and access the
Volumes as a SMB Network Share. Fullscreen Works after installing the
Host Utilities for Windows.
