hanging after installation

sorry if did not previously explain myself properly, my problem is as follows: after completing the installation and rebooting the computer the following message appears and the computer hangs. F1    FreeBSD Default: F1 - hitting F1 or enter does not start the loading process. what could be the cause of the problem?   it is not a dualboot, and i have tried using both the boot mgr and standard MBR with the same effect. i have tried installing the whole distribution and a minimal distribution and this is my first freeBSD installation so it has not worked previously.   thanks for the help marc
