I just wanted to try a splash at boot, so I compiled my kernel with
these options :
device splash
options SC_PIXEL_MODE
options VESA
options X86BIOS
And added to my /boot/loader.conf :
splash_bmp_load=YES
bitmap_load=YES
bitmap_name=/boot/splash.bmp
Where splash.bmp is a 1024x768 picture.
It works well, but after the boot, the splash does not die and I must
press some key to remove it. For the moment I found a workaround to
prevent this by adding to the /etc/rc.conf :
allscreens_flags=MODE_291
Is this behavior expected or is it a bug?
Don't know if it's a bug, but the splash screen is also used as a screen
saver blank screen in some interaction I've never quite figured out.
See vidcontrol's -t option and allscreens_flags in
/etc/defaults/rc.conf.
