Frozen Processes
Hello, Since upgrading some of our 5.4 servers to the latest 6.1-STABLE we've had some processes stuck in the *inp state as listed in 'top'. Those processes can't be killed and any resources they use up in terms of bound IP addresses or ports can't be freed. Does anyone know what this *inp state means or how to fix this problem? Serial ATA Errors
Hello Everyone, I started seeing some ata errors on a server running FreeBSD 5.4-STABLE that I've never seen before. This probably has something to do with it but we just upgraded the RAM on the server from 1 GB to 2 GB (DDR 400), perhaps a cable got slightly loose. I'm pretty certain the hard drives are good since the server ran fine prior to the memory upgrade. What do the errors below mean? Should I be worried? Network Connection Freezing
Hello, We have a fairly busy web server runnning 5.4-STABLE and the ethernet connection seems to drop offline during the peak times daily. We have seen errors such as this: Jan 29 17:06:00 web kernel: sis0: initialization failed: no memory for rx buffers Jan 29 17:13:01 web kernel: sis0: initialization failed: no memory for rx buffers Logging into the console and doing an ifconfig sis0 down and then up would bring the server back online. The FreeBSD OS never crashed. I saw other sis0 cable fix errors so yesterday I removed this sis0 card and replaced it with an Intel card (fxp0). Much to my dismay the network connection died again this morning. The fxp0 card reported no errors on the console however when I did the usual ifconfig down then back up this error came up on the console: Jan 31 17:51:10 web kernel: in_cksum_skip: out of data by 15320 After the first set of errors I modified certain sysctl variables: kern.maxfiles=32768 kern.maxfilesperproc=16384 kern.ipc.shmall=16384 kern.ipc.nmbclusters=65535 kern.ipc.somaxconn=8192 net.inet.ip.dummynet.hash_size=2048 net.inet.ip.fw.one_pass=1 net.inet.ip.rtexpire=2 net.inet.ip.rtminexpire=2 net.inet.ip.redirect=0 net.inet.tcp.delayed_ack=0 This web server is a music download server which is has a varying ipfw per destination IP download limit depending on the time of day to control bandwidth usage. This causes httpd to run 500, 600, 700 times. RAM is not an issue since we upgraded to 2 GB. Does anyone have any idea how to solve this problem? Perhaps there's other sysctl variables we can increase? Any kernel options? Thank you very much in advance! Holt G. __ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo! Working Keyboard in 5.x
Hello, Does anyone know how to make a PS/2 keyboard work when plugged into a system booted without a keyboard on FreeBSD 5.x? It doesn't seem to work. For example in 4.x the default GENERIC kernel line is: device atkbd0 at atkbdc? irq 1 flags 0x1 If you leave that line alone, the ps/2 keyboard will not work if a system booted without one plugged in. But if you remove the flags 0x1 it will work fine. Does anyone know how to make the PS/2 work properly in 5.x? Thank you, Holt G. __ Yahoo! Mail Mobile Take Yahoo! Mail with you! Hello, Does the latest 5.x-STABLE support the Pacific Digital Talon ZL4-150 SATA RAID Card (U-30245)? After checking the hardware release notes I'm not sure. Any ideas? 4.4-RELEASE
Does anyone know when 4.4 will be released? I have seen discussion that it would be pushed back to the 14th of this month but I do not recall seeing any official statement to that effect. AFAIK it should be released today.. right? Personally it makes not much different but ive alerted clients of upgrades to 4.4 and i have to keep them up to par on whats going on also. Any ideas? 4.2-stable
I see that 4.1.1 is being released. Does this mean we'll have to wait about 3 months or so from now for 4.2 or is 4.2 comming up very soon? If i am not mistaking 4.1 was released about 2 months ago. That would make 4.2's date sometime at the end of next month.. Has the 4.1.1 release changed this plan? __ Do You Yahoo!? Send instant messages get email alerts with Yahoo! Write Cache Softupdates
I am thinking of enabling softupdates but have read in the questions/stable mail listing archives that enabling softupdates when the hard drive has write cache enabled could cause trouble that would not normally be experienced. Does anyone know if there is any truth to that? Is disabling write cache not a good idea? If anyone could offer up some suggestions, that would be beneficial. Holt __ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo!
