FreeBSD (and bhyve) assumes that this is the same in all CPUs. FreeBSD itself pulls all information about the system from the BSP's leaf contents, and then assumes this is the same for all other CPUs. bhyve's assumption is that it can call do_cpuid() on any CPU and get the same information to pass to guests on CPUID exits. A lot of applications also assume this and will look at CPUID values to determine whether they can use SSE/SSE2/AVX libraries etc. What system is this ? [Bug 192281] [kern] nmdm with bhyve causes kernel panic
https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=192281 --- Comment #5 from Dave Smith dsm...@johncompanies.com --- Hi Peter, I had 3 VMs running with a slightly modified vmrc. The vms had names like col02325. When I tried to start a 4th VM it happened to have a name like col00345. I was using the last 4 digits as the nmdm device number. Apparently a leading zero for the nmdm number caused a problem. The whole system crashed. I changed the vm name to col05345, and it worked. To my way of thinking, nothing that can be entered on a command line should be able to cause a kernel crash. Let me know if you need more information. I even have a couple of crash dumps. https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=192281 --- Comment #6 from Peter Grehan gre...@freebsd.org --- Thanks - yes, easy repro on 10. Doesn't crash on CURRENT, but the bug is still there in that the leading zeros are stripped when the devfs entry is created. This in turn means that it isn't possible to connect to the 'B' end using the same text string. After a chat with Neel, the proposed solution will be to allow any valid devfs character string between the 'nmdm' and trailing 'A' or 'B'. That way you can even encode the VM name in the nmdm device name :) I'll see if I can get this into CURRENT shortly, and then MFC in time for 10.1. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug. ___ freebsd-virtualization@freebsd.org mailing list http://lists.freebsd.org/mailman/listinfo/freebsd-virtualization To unsubscribe, send any mail to freebsd-virtualization-unsubscr...@freebsd.org

Since grub creates the memory map that is passed to the kernel, this will result in the guest kernel attempting to access memory that doesn't exist, which results in bhyve dumping core. [Bug 206699] [Hyper-V]FreeBSD potential NULL pointer dereference in storage bounce buffer
https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=206699 --- Comment #1 from Roger Pau Monné--- I've already told Wei that creating your own bounce buffer is a bad idea. Instead you should use the BUSDMA API and let it take care of the bouncing when necessary: https://reviews.freebsd.org/D1964 IIRC something was missing in BUSDMA so that the HyperV storage driver could use it, we should look into adding what's needed and then removing this custom bounce buffering. [Bug 208238] [Hyper-V] TSC frequency is not correctly detected: "calcru: runtime went backwards"
https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=208238 --- Comment #2 from Dexuan Cui--- The tsc-calibration fix was temporarily taken back last Friday because we found an interesting thing: with some kind of config, Xen can pretend to be Hyper-V by mimicking the hypervisor CPUID signature (this is usually to make Windows VM run better on Xen), but Xen doesn’t support Hyper-V timecounter, so the fix causes an unexpected panic when FreeBSD VM runs on Xen in this case.
