[Freeciv-Dev] [bug #24934] Ancients is broken and crashes the client

2016-08-07 Thread Sam Sam
Follow-up Comment #3, bug #24934 (project freeciv):

I would like to comment that a text file glitch and error probably should not
disable the entire client from starting after the Start New Game/Load Save
Game window.

Can there please be a way to change the client tileset on this screen? If
there is a severe enough tileset error, a crashed client is a bit extreme. I
don't see why that entire client options screen is hidden until the game is
begun. So if I start a hextile game after running overhead or isometric, the
game looks a bit strange when it loads.

I don't understand this at all.

Developers, any comment on why this is?

Details:

Running 2.5.4, Windows 10. I tried to install ancients. It failed to run and
gave an error about something to do with lakes.

"Tileset problem, it's probably incompatible with the ruleset: Don't have
graphics tags "t.l0.lake_n0e0s0w0" or "" for matched terrain "Lake".

This was fixed by using this file:

http://forum.freeciv.org/f/viewtopic.php?t=896#p5195

And I still had a few errors. The ancients seemed to work okay, and I used
Sextant as a tileset because I didn't care for the ancients.

So I ran a game with the ancients ruleset and the sextant tileset. Gameplay
seems ok, but I saw a few glitches once when attacking am AI city. My elephant
attacked a city and won, but showed no damage. I also had a situation where a
diplomat showed an empty city but it obviously was defended.

But this is what stderr.txt reports (see attached file)

Follow-up Comment #5, patch #7240 (project freeciv):

It looks like the city of Orange is on the list twice. Will that resort in
multiple cities named that?

Added new cities, rearranged some to bring a few important historical cities
to the top of the list, and added a lot of hints for terrain.
