Follow-up Comment #3, bug #24418 (project freeciv):

I built desktop freeciv with configure options "--enable-json
--disable-delta-protocol", did the same forcing of global warming as before.
In that case it took a long time, but it still worked.
I'm yet to check how much data is getting transferred there (how many tiles
gets changed)

Follow-up Comment #1, bug #24418 (project freeciv):

Can't reproduce with current TRUNK head of desktop version. I set ruleset in
the savegame to "classic" so that desktop version can load it. At first the
global warming did not happen at all, but when I replaced the randomness from
it and forced it to happen ("if (TRUE /*fc_rand((map_num_tiles() + 19) / 20)
<= *accum */) {") it still went smoothly.
