I just tried installing and running 0.11.3 and i do not get that java
error. Can you download from the sun website java 7 or even java 8 and
install that. as mentioned previously mac no longer ships with java
included.

I do not think that is a problem. This is a serious bug, and the people

I can try and dig through the code this weekend and while I am on vacation.
I think the biggest question is this. is Java installed. As its no longer
part of osx and bundled in osx by Apple its now a 3rd party download you
have to download yourself

Mike,

It's a just a system dialog box that says:

Cannot Launch "FreeCol"
No compatible version of Java 1.7+ is available.

I don't know if you just get the text version, but it shows up in my HTML
version.

I am unaware of any mac-specific bundling code in the FreeCol sources
other than the configuration in the top level build.xml. I fear all the
developers who ever worked closely with the installer are currently
inactive. I know nothing about it and avoid touching it unless it is
broken and someone tells me how to fix it.

I doubt the mac parts of the installer have changed much, ever.

The project seems to be active, at: izpack.org

FreeCol just uses it, we have no ongoing involvement with izpack.

I suggest you download the FreeCol sources, work out how to update the
installer or at least the mac-specific parts, get it working again, and
tell us how what to do. That would be really helpful!

[Freecol-developers] FreeCol.app from MacOS installer does not run on OS X

2015-03-26 Thread Malhar Singh
Hi All,

I’ve done some research and gathered more information on this bug I tried to
bring up about a week ago. When I tried to open FreeCol after downloading it
through the MacOS download I got the error message that I have attached.

At the time I first noticed this bug I had version 1.6 of Java, then I updated
to 1.7 and it still didn’t work, then 1.8 and I still got the same message. I
was able to get the application downloaded through the platform independent
download, and it ran perfectly. This made me realize there is likely some sort
of bug with the Mac installer, since it thinks I'm having some issue with Java,
which I am clearly not because Java will run FreeCol through the other install.
(Note: I am running OS X 10.10). I reproduced this bug on 2 more Mac (running
OS X 10.9, and java 1.8) and the same error appeared. The platform independent
installer also worked perfectly on this computer. This could most likely mean
that the FreeCol.app version (from the MacOS download) is unable to actually
locate where Java is on these newer versions of OS X. I tried looking through
the app bundling code but could not find anything that could lead directly to
this error. If I can be directed to the mac bundling code directly I might be
able to find something. Looking back at the archives it seems like the mac
version was bundled quite a long time ago, I’m not sure if it has been updated
since then but this is what I could find on it
https://sourceforge.net/p/freecol/mailman/message/1128349/
. Does anyone have
any information on the actual code for the app bundler, or experienced this
issue themselves?

I am very eager to help with this bug, whether it be looking at the code for
the installer, FreeCol, etc. Please let me know how I can best help.
