[Freedos-devel] PvP Gem game

2021-12-30 Thread Jim Hall
Hi everyone!

Over the last few days, I decided to write a little game, and I wanted
to share it. I call it "PvP Gem" ["Player vs Player Gem"] and it's a
two-player match-3 game.

In this game, two players take turns. You select a "gem," that gem is
destroyed, and you get a point. Other gems fill in from above. If you
can match 3 or more gems, you get points for those too. The first
player to reach 25 points wins.

As you play, you need to be careful what gem you destroy so you don't
set up your opponent for a great move!

So it's a little more than a simple match-3 game. The game requires
some strategy, too. As you play, you need to be careful what gem you
destroy so you don't set up your opponent for a great move!

Uses PC speaker for sound. Requires OpenWatcom to build. MIT license.

I've shared it at https://github.com/freedosproject/pvpgem

There's a "v1.0" release there that also has a compiled version of the
game, so you can play it.

This was just a quick "one off" game and still needs some tweaking.
For example, the game re-draws the board at every move, rather than
just the gems that changed.

In a future version, I'll let the user pick names, so it's not "Player
0" and "Player 1."

Hi to all,one of the most important things that users notice first of all, especial when using other languages than english, is a good looking installation process. This has nothing to do with the phantastic job that Jerome does. What i talk about are bad translations or ugly line breaks within a longer text which can be avoided. For a translator it is often hard to see this, as some translation texts contain many infos about jumppoints, different colours etc. so that it is hard to see how long the text will be in reality.Summary, if you see such ugly line breaks etc. please take a screenshot and send it in reduced but visible form to me, fritz.mueller@mail.com . I will try to fix this. If you have an improvement for text, please send it too, if possible in the correct language. Please no bug reports as I am no programmer, only a trained tester. In the hope to give the FreeDOS installation editions a professional look and feel.Willi / Fritz--Diese Nachricht wurde von meinem Android Mobiltelefon mit mail.com Mail gesendet.Am 30.12.21, 21:23 schrieb Jim Hall :

You're doing an amazing job, my friend! RC5 is looking really good.
I'm hopeful that with some more testing, we can go ahead with 1.3
   "final."

Hello All,

You are welcome and Thank you.

There just are not enough hours in a day.
But what I can manage to squeeze in, I try to get done.

I had the exact same idea and thought about posting such a message when
1.3 was going to be released but you were faster Willi :-) Jerome has
been dealing with all the bug reports and translation updates I've been
spamming, taking into account feature requests and other suggestions. He
made a real difference.

So a big thank you indeed!

And by sending translations on :-)
