I'm not aware of any uncertainty. There was a p.d. version and a
(slightly bugfixed?) GPLv2 version, AFAIK. It was quite interesting
but (as mentioned) lacked a few features. So I normally stuck with
vanilla FreeCOM (0.84-pre2 XMS_Swap) since forever, which works very
well (and indeed has had some work done on it lately, thanks to Tom

Wow! This is what I was googling for days, and all
that time it was here!
The uncertainty came from this thread:
https://sourceforge.net/p/freedos-32/mailman/message/3995213/
https://sourceforge.net/p/freedos-32/mailman/message/3995210/
https://sourceforge.net/p/freedos-32/mailman/message/3995212/
Obviously people were not aware of v2 either.
Lets add freedos-32-dev to CC.

and finally decided to see if I can do something about its licensing.
So I just mailed to Centroids, and, quite suprisingly, the outcome
was very positive: https://github.com/stsp/comcom32/issues/12 Here
you can see the reply from Centroid official, confirming the
possibility of distributing this command.com source under GPLv3+.

Always good to get confirmation.

But v2 seems to have it already, so...
Thanks for the pointers.
Maybe you should put the README outside of an
archive to allow search engines to locate it.

So just wanted to let you know about this. I believe it is now
possible for freedos to re-upload it to their servers, where it once
initially was.
I was not personally involved back then, but nowadays I can easily
upload (or reupload) to iBiblio for us anything (free/libre) related
to that, if you wish. But I'm not directly aware of the various
versions and their differences. Any preference or request?

I wasn't aware of v2 either. I'll review it & merge.
However, as you already have that uploaded, I am
not sure if you need anything else. comcom32 project
evolves, so putting it into an archive probably doesn't
help much, as it will change the next day or so.
So let me just point out that I upload the binaries here:
https://github.com/stsp/comcom32/blob/master/tmp/comcom32.exe
Maybe you will be interested in uploading it as v3 one day,
or something like that. Its also available via Ubuntu PPA.

Thanks!

I think you are absolutely obtuse if you think I asked
you what I should do.

Because obviously what I wanted to do is to
notify everyone who hosted that code, about the
license clarification.
I certainly don't care about "the rest of your life".
I fortunately don't even know who you are.

Not sure why should I reply to the crap like this,
but here's the proof:

to this program in the Centroid site. I downloaded it from the FreeDOS site,

So as I said, these source came from the freedos site.

I never heard of Centroid. So: no.

FreeDOS is NOT the kitchen sink where to dump 20 years old,
buggy software as long as it has a GPL3 license attached.

In particular in case of command.com, some people here have spend
some significant time to make it as compatible and bug free as
possible.

now you come and advertise something with

 * BUGS, PECULIARITIES, AND/OR UNIMPLEMENTED FEATURES
 * - Some commands are incomplete: TIME, DATE
 * - Some built-in commands should really be separate executables
 * and not built-in. They are: CHOICE, MORE, PAUSE, XCOPY.
 * - Some commands are not even recognized but should be.
 * They are: FOR, SHIFT

no FOR,SHIFT: that's close to insulting.

whatever your plans with this GPL3 software: there will not be a
 place in freedos.

PLEASE.GO.AWAY. (and stay there for the rest of my life)
