Thanks for the tip. I launched fs_cli, typed sofia profile internal
siptrace on, and then made a call from XLite to the GS phone, with the same
issue.

I wish I could go through the debug messages in the CLI, but there's so much
data that I can't even see the beginning. Is there a way to reduce the
amount of information, eg. only displaying the SIP messages, or only
displaying the lines that start with [debug] while ignoring those that start
with [notice]?

Thank you.

More information: I can dial the default extensions like just fine. It's
only when I call any of the IP phones (1001,1002,1003) that the call is
immediately forwarded to the callee's voice-mail when the phone goes off the
hook.

To only keep the SIP messages in the fs_cli screen, typing sofia loglevel
all 0 followed by sofia profile internal siptrace on doesn't do the
trick, so am unable to post the whole log yet.

[Freeswitch-users] [Dialplan?] Call either sent to VM or phone doesn't ring at all

2009-12-22 Thread Fred-145

Hello

I'm running 1.0.trunk (15841) on Linux CentOS with a the default settings.
After succesfully connecting a Windows PC running XLite (EyeBeam, really)
and a GrandStream IP phone to Freeswitch, I try to make calls, but am having
the following issues:

1. When calling XLite from GS, XLite rings, but when I pick up the call, the
caller is sent to voice-mail right away (the person on extension 1001 is
not available)
2. When calling GS from XLite, the GS phone doesn't even ring.

FWIW, the phones seem to have registered OK:

Re: [Freeswitch-users] [Dialplan?] Call either sent to VM or phone doesn't ring at all

I found the cause for #2: The GS phone was still configured to use NAT, even
though both XLite and GS are located in the same, private LAN. Unchecking
this on the GS phone solved the issue.

But I'm still having issue #1, regardless of which phone is calling or being
called: When the phone answers the call, I'm sent automatically to
voice-mail. Could it be codec-related, or something like that?

Thank you.

[Freeswitch-users] Mirroring wiki with wget for offline browsing?

2009-12-17 Thread Fred-145

Hello

I'm no wget expert, and figured I should ask here first: I'd like to
download the whole wiki using wget for off-line reading.

Using the following didn't work:

wget -m -np http://wiki.freeswitch.org/wiki/Main_Page

If I move the wiki/ directory to the root directory of my web server, and
try to open http://localhost/wiki/Main_Page, FireFox tries to download the
page with this dialog box:

You have chosen to open
Main_Page
which is a: application/octet-stream

I assume wget can do this, but I don't know enough. Has someone succeeded in
downloading the whole wiki with wget and could give the right switches to
use?

2009-12-15 Thread Fred-145

Are you typing up something for posterity's sake? If so let me know. I'll be
happy to proof-read the finished product and offer suggestions.

Thanks much for the clarification. I'm used to writing short documentation
when I learn a new tool, so 1) it helps me understand how it works, 2) I can
perform a new install faster, and 3) it helps newbies get a head-start.

So in short:
- profiles = User Agents (end points of a phone call, says Wikipedia)
where each profile listens on a given IP/port so that a single Freeswitch
server can handle several profiles concurrently, eg. one end-point for
internal, authenticated users, and another end-point for incoming calls from
a VoIP provider
- contexts = tells what a caller can do; a call can go through multiple
contexts during the length of the call. In a dialplan, contexts = groups of
extensions

Thank you.

Re: [Freeswitch-users] Context vs. profile?

2009-12-14 Thread Fred-145

Thanks Anthony for the tip.

Would you say this is a correct representation of things?

Contexts are a set of extensions in conf/dialplan/ (eg. default, public,
etc.)

Extensions are configured through files in conf/directory/. Each extension
maps to a context (variable name=user_context value=default/).

Profiles refer to contexts in a dialplan (eg. ).
Profiles are groups of settings used by different parts of the network, eg.
Internal (private LAN), External (Internet-accessible, public LAN), etc.
Each profile has a unique IP + port number.

So, in the case where the FS server is located in a private network, these

- UPnP and NAT-PMP (FS asks the router for its public IP, and negotiates
opening the required UDP ports dynamically)
- STUN (to get the public IP address from a remote STUN server) +
port-mapping (to permanently open required UDP ports on NAT firewall)
- possibly this fourth solution above

[Freeswitch-users] [OpenZAP] Does Dahdi (ex-Zaptel) require Asterisk?

2009-12-08 Thread Fred-145

Hello

I'd like to install OpenZAP so I can use a TDM card with Freeswitch, but I'm
getting a software error althought the TDM card seems detected (lspci -v
OK). Dahdi was successfully compiled from source code.

Is it OK to just install Dahdi 2.2.0 without Asterisk before going ahead
with OpenZAP? The reason I ask, is that in another forum, someone mentionned
/etc/asterisk/chan_dahdi.conf.

Here's the output from dahdi_cfg -vvv:

Here's ls -l /dev/dahdi/:

Has someone succesfully installed Dahdi without Asterisk?

Thank you.

Re: [Freeswitch-users] [OpenZAP] Does Dahdi (ex-Zaptel) require Asterisk?

2009-12-08 Thread Fred-145

Thanks Russel for the tip. After more googling, I ended up figuring that
/etc/dahdi/modules had to contain the list of drivers to load.

For those interested, here's how to compile and install Dahdi (which doesn't
need Asterisk at all, unlike some docs on the Net seem to imply due to
references to /etc/asterisk/*.conf):

1. Download and unpack the Dahdi tarball

2. make all ; make install ; make config

3. cd /etc/dahdi/

4. vi system.conf:
#For France, single FXO module on TDM card
loadzone=  fr
defaultzone = fr
fxsks=1

5. vi modules:
wcfxo
wctdm
dahdi

6. /etc/init.d/dahdi start

7. dahdi_cfg -vvv

8. ls -la /proc/dahdi/

Now, on to OpenZAP...

Thanks again.

Michael Jerris wrote:

Thanks Mike for the feedback. If a user has a problem using my FS server,
I'll check what client they have.

For those interested, here's what RFC 3581 adds to SIP: Session Initiation
Protocol (SIP) operates over UDP and TCP, among others. When used with UDP,
responses to requests are returned to the source address the request came
from, and to the port written into the topmost Via header field value of the
request. This behavior is not desirable in many cases, most notably, when
the client is behind a Network Address Translator (NAT). This extension
defines a new parameter for the Via header field, called rport, that
allows a client to request that the server send the response back to the
source IP address and port from which the request originated.

[Freeswitch-users] IAX? Issues connecting road warriors with SIP?

2009-12-03 Thread Fred-145

Hello

In a thread back in March, I read that support for IAX in FreeSwitch is a
bit of kludge and since there's not much demand for it, chances are it won't
improve in the foreseeable future.

So I'd like some feedback from users who routinely connect to a FreeSwitch
server from various venues, ie. wifi hotspots at McD, Ethernet LAN in
hotels, etc. (in my case, the FreeSwitch server is located in a private
network behind a NAT router with SIP/RTP ports statically mapped.)

Do you sometimes/often get issues where SIP (UDP5060) or RTP (UDPwhatever)
ports fail being opened dynamically to work properly, or does SIP today
really work well over NAT firewalls?

Thank you.

[Freeswitch-users] Right way to start FS on CentOS at boot-time?

Hello

For those of you running FS on CentOS (5.4) who compiled FS from SVN, I'd

boot-time:

1. cp /usr/src/freeswitch/build/freeswitch.init.redhat
/etc/init.d/freeswitch
2. vi /etc/init.d/freeswitch:

PID_FILE=${PID_FILE-/usr/local/freeswitch/log/freeswitch.pid}
FS_FILE=${FS_FILE-/usr/local/freeswitch/bin/freeswitch}
FS_HOME=${FS_HOME-/usr/local/freeswitch}

3. chmod 755 /etc/init.d/freeswitch
4. chkconfig --level 345 freeswitch on
5. chkconfig --list freeswitch
6. (why needed in addition to chkconfig?) ln -s /etc/init.d/freeswitch
/usr/sbin/rcfreeswitch

To manually start the server:
Launch the server through the rc.d script: /etc/init.d/freeswitch start

Is the above correct?

Thank you.

[Freeswitch-users] Does OpenZap support CTR21?

2009-11-05 Thread Fred-145

Hello

As an alternative to more expensive alternatives like OpenVox or Sangoma,
I'd like to order an X100P clone from www.x100p.com for use in France.

According to a PDF on the site, the reason this card gets bad reviews is
that the Silicon labs Si3012/Si3035 DAA chip used in the original Digium
X100P card and low cost X100P clone cards only supports FCC mode. However,
the Si3014/Si3034 DAA chip used on the X100P SE supports global line
standards.

As for software, the Silicon labs Si3014/Si3034 DAA chip used in the X100P
SE supports 600 Ohm impedance and complex impedance to meet CTR21 line
standards. However, the Zaptel wcfxo driver only supports CTR21 mode with
600 Ohm AC termination, which may or may not be the correct setting
depending on the country and the phone system in use.

So... does someone know if OpenZap, which is apparently required in addition
to Zaptel/Dahdi for FreeSwitch to work PCI TDM cards, supports CTR21?

Thank you.

[Freeswitch-users] Porting Freeswitch to ARM?

Hello

I don't have the technical expertise to tell, so here goes: Unless mistaken,
Freeswitch is written in C and/or C++, so I guess it's not linked to the x86
instruction set.

Is so, would it be a lot of work of porting it so it runs on ARM processors?
It'd be cool because it could run on tiny platforms like the
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SheevaPlug Sheeva Plug .

Or maybe parts of it are written in assembly, so it's a lot of work?

Thanks Tihomir for the link.

From what I read, it appears that EdgePBX's FX02G is a full-fledged Asterisk
server with a GSM module and an FXS module. Did you reflash its NAND to run
Freeswitch?

At $300, I guess customers will rather take a subscription with a VoIP
provided and use their GSM gateway, but I'm interested in knowing whether
the FX02G can be used as a PSTN/GSM gateway, possibly with FreeSwitch
running on that unit as well.

Thank you.

[Freeswitch-users] Affordable GSM gateway for one cellphone?

2009-09-19 Thread Fred-145

Hello

I'm selling a basic solution for SOHO customers (FS is installed on their
work computer running Windows or Macs) to handle an analog phone line.
When they're on the road, in addition or instead of getting a notification
by e-mail when someone calls their office, some users might want to have the
Freeswitch server actually ring their cellphone so they can take calls.

Besides taking a subscription with a VoIP provider that the Freeswitch
server will use to ring their cellphone, I'd like to know what my options
are when it comes to setting up a GSM gateway on the customer's premises, in
case they don't want to depend on the Internet.

Are there Freeswitch-compatible, affordable solutions to handle a single GSM
subscription? I guess all it takes is having them take a second subscription
with their GSM provider and inserting the SIM chip inside the gateway to
have Freeswitch ring their cellphone, but I've never used those things.

Thank you.

That's often the problem with appliances: Once the CPU/modo, RAM, SDD/HD,

expensive as a regular PC.

Is acrylic easy to work with, eg. using a Dremel? If it is, I could save
money on the case, and stick a PCI card beneath the mobo and have a
stand-alone, compact thingy while still using a standard Linux distro.

Thanks Ed, but the problem with all those, is:
- they typically have so little RAM/Flash RAM that they can't run a regular
Linux distro, which means that we're stuck with whatever software is
available with the customized distro for the appliance
- they don't have room for a PCI card, which means that we have to have an
external VoIP gateway to connect the appliance to the POTS
- they're as expensive or more expensive than a regular PC

At this point, there doesn't seem to be any appliance that can run
FreeSwitch and handle a POTS line in a compact, sub-$200 price-range.

I browsed the wiki + archives of this list, but didn't find an article on
how to add a TDM card to Freeswitch. If I've overlooked it, thank you for
pointing me to it.

I have a one-FXO module OpenVox PCI card. It's correctly detected by Linux
CentOS 5:

# lspci -v

interface
Subsystem: Unknown device b100:0003

I/O ports at a000 [size=256]
Memory at e200 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=4K]
Capabilities: [40] Power Management version 2

I've successfully compiled Freeswitch from SVN and connected to it with an
SIP softphone.

How do I go about adding this card to Freeswitch to handle incoming calls
from the PSTN?

Re: [Freeswitch-users] Internal.xml using Public context/dialplan?

2009-04-28 Thread Fred-145

Thanks Brian. I'd like to make sure I finally got how dialplans, contexts,
domains, SIP profiles, and extensions in the directory work together:

Freeswitch supports different SIP profiles in conf/sip_profiles/
(internal.xml, external.xml, etc.), which are loaded through
conf/autoload_configs/sofia.conf.xml. Each profile maps to a domain, which
corresponds to the part after @ (eg. 1...@192.168.0.1: The Freeswitch
server is listening on 192.168.0.1, and this is the domain to which
extension 1000 belongs.)

Each profile also maps to a context (dialplan) located under conf/dialplan/.
Note that, for security reasons, by default, all SIP profiles are set to use
the Public context; Internal extensions must map to the Default (private)
context explicitely through the user_context variable.

Extensions are located under conf/directory/. Each sub-directory matches the
domain to which an extension belongs. As set in conf/vars.xml, the default
domain matches the server's IP address which itself maps to the Default
domain, so all extensions that belong to this domain are located under
conf/directory/default/.

Is this correct?

Freeswitch, I'd like to offer an alternative that has the following
features:

- not old hardware sold on eBay, ie. it must be up-to-date hardware sold by
a company currently in business
- compact, silent
- has room for a 2.5 hard-disk, but if not, must provide a CompactFlash
plug
- ideally, room for a PCI card, possibly laid down with a riser to save
space
- total cost (shipping + VAT) 200 euro

If it's cheaper and not much work, I don't mind buying the parts and putting
the box together myself, but otherwise, I'd rather order a complete box,
ready-to-use.

What are my options to provide customers with that kind of solution?

Thank you for any hint.

Before dumping the 3102, you could ask in the Voxilla forum, and see if
someone knows how to get it to receive CID in the UAE.

If it still doesn't work, as far as I know, Sangoma is the only solution for
Windows, using the OpenZAP interface (wanpipe):

I think the USB device doesn't work with Windows yet:

Otherwise, with single-FXO PCI cards from OpenVox selling for $80, it's too
bad there's still no way to use those in Windows :-/

Thanks again Mike. I went ahead, created a freeswitch user, chowned

One little detail, though, which might be CentOS-specific: Even after

Does someone know why ps shows the ID instead of the name in column 1?

Thanks Brian. So, to be safe, the context parameter in internal.xml refers
to the public dialplan, and extensions are expected to overrule this
setting with user_context?
I also assume that, by default, profiles expect extensions to authenticate,
which would explain why external.xml has the setting auth-calls set to
false, while internal.xml doesn't have this setting at all?

If I'm right, I think I finally figured it out. I was confused with
profiles, contexts, extensions, and dialplans.

Here's how I _think_ these four thingies work together:

1. conf/dialplan/ contain XML files. Each file contains a bunch of
extensions. context is a synonym for dialplan

2. conf/sip_profiles/ contains SIP profiles, eg. Internal/Default and
External/Outbound

3. conf/directory/ contains extensions: The name of the XML file corresponds
to a profile (eg. default.xml matches conf/sip_profiles/default.xml. This
means that any extension in conf/directory/default/ belongs to the
Internal/Default SIP profile.

Each extension contains a parameter context that matches a diaplan in
conf/dialplan/

Here's a diagram:

http://img7.imageshack.us/img7/8670/freeswitchdpprofext.jpg

Did I get right this time? :-)

[Freeswitch-users] NAT between FS and remote SIP phone

2009-04-20 Thread Fred-145

Hello

I'd like to know how to set things up when using the following scenario:
- a VoIP gateway on the same LAN as the Freeswitch to handle incoming calls
from a POTS line
- a remote SIP phone somewhere on the Net
- the FS server and the remote SIP phone are both behind a NAT router
- the remote SIP user either doesn't have the computer skills to map ports
on his NAT router, or doesn't have access to it (eg. staying in a hotel or
connecting to FS from a wifi connection @ Starbucks)

The questions I have:
1. What ports need to be mapped on each router?
2. If I understood it correctly, UPnP is a technology that can open ports
dynamically. Are there ways to tell if a router supports UPnP, are there
other ways to have a remote SIP phone work right out of the box, or are
there cases where mapping ports manually is the only way to get SIP/RTP to
work?
3. When a call comes from the POTS line and meant for the remote SIP
extension... do RTP packets flow directly from the Linksys VoIP gateway to
the remote SIP phone, or do they go through the FS server?

Thank you for any hint.

when setting things up.

Here's what I did:
1. Downloaded and compiled the latest SVN source

Starting FreeSWITCH 3867 Backgrounding.
   done
/usr/local/freeswitch/bin # ./fs_cli

Brian West-3 What run level are you starting freeswitch?

3 to 5, the default being 5 (it's the desktop version, hence starting with X):

# cat /etc/inittab

# chkconfig -l freeswitch
freeswitch0:off 1:off 2:off 3:on 4:on 5:on 6:off

try this? #netstat -an | grep 8021

# netstat -an | grep 8021
tcp0 0 127.0.0.1:8021 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN

Maybe FS started before network is ready. Check scripts in
/etc/rcyour_run_level.d/ or any equiv

It looks ok:

# ll /etc/rc.d/rc5.d/
[...]
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 10 Jun 16 2008 S05network - ../network
[...]
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 13 Mar 24 16:36 S12freeswitch - ../freeswitch

lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 13 Jun 16 2008 S15cupsrenice - ../cupsrenice

If it's a Suse-specific issue, I'll go ask in a Suse forum and see if

doesn't have room for a PCI slot, and I'm concerned about its performance.

I also like stuff from MiniITX (www.mini-itx.com) , but they're a bit
pricey, and might also not be fast enough to act as a server.

Are there brands/models you think I should look at?

Thank you.

Thanks guys for the feedback. So, the OpenZap driver isn't ready for
production yet?

[Freeswitch-users] Sangoma USB FXO U100 + Asus notebook?

2009-03-01 Thread Fred
Hello

As an easy way to show a Freeswitch server to prospects, I'm thinking
of buying an Asus notebook along with a Sangom USB FXO gateway.

www.telephonydepot.com/Catalog/Sangoma/Sangoma-USB-FXO-U100-2-Port

If someone's been using those two thingies, I'm curious to know if
they happily run Freeswitch, or if I should look for some other hardware?

Thank you.

[Freeswitch-users] SIP server? PBX vs. softswitch?

2009-02-28 Thread Fred
Hello

Even though I successfully set up an Asterisk voice server, I'm no
telecom expert, and would like some clarification about the following things:
- What is an SIP server as opposed to a IP PBX?
- What is the different between a PBX like Asterisk and a softswitch?

Thank you.

[Freeswitch-users] Using OpenZAP + FXO card just to get CID info?

2009-02-28 Thread Fred
Hello

I'd like to write a single-host CRM application, so I need to get the
CallerID information when a call comes in. I don't actually need a
PBX/softswitch. The user will have the FXO cards and a phoneset
connected on the same line, and will pick up the phone once the CRM
application has picked up the CID info and popped up a dialog box, etc.

Is it possible to just use OpenZAP to get this information, or must I
install Freeswitch and provide an IP phone as well?

Thank you.

[Freeswitch-users] Web-based forum?

2009-02-24 Thread Fred
Hello

Maybe this question has been raised before, but if not: There's so
much traffic in this mailing list that I was wondering if adding a
web-based forum on the site was in the works?

Cheers,
