[FRIAM] Phone for that?

2022-11-02 Thread Gillian Densmore
Marcos,
Which phone should I get to replace my pixel4a? Ideally has a real keyboard
because I don't like typing on glass. And also ideally is fun in someway,
because at 300 or 500 dollars that's a decent investment.
I like Uninhertz titan for checking all the boxes. But square screen
I like the Note 9 for price but no keyboard.
Others say: ollet see if this small keyboard and a case works .
ARGH where's my phone then? haalp!

Re: [FRIAM] Phone voice quality

2020-05-06 Thread Prof David West
check out consumer cellular. they have offered phones for the elderly (which
you will be some day) optimized both visually (big buttons, backlit keys) and
aurally. Don't know if they still do, but Mary's mother (98 this year and still
using her phone) has one. Service areas suck.

[FRIAM] Phone voice quality

2020-05-06 Thread thompnickson2
Phellow Phriammers,

Has anybody got a recommendation on a phone, wireless or other wise, that
has really good voice quality. I find I am struggling to understand people
when they talk to me over the phone, even though I am on a land line,
usually. Land line to land line, within the city, seems much better, even
when I am on a wireless receiver within the house. That would rule out line
quality. A friend has told me that most cell phones have sacrificed
intelligibility for other virtues, and the problem is almost surely with
OTHER PEOPLE'S PHONES. In some cases it seems to have to do with the fact
that cell phones are too short to allow a person to both hear well and be
heard well. People instinctively maximize hearing well, and so the person
on the other end is out of luck.

Any thoughts on any of this?

[FRIAM] phone

2014-08-25 Thread Joseph Spinden
I got an email recently about a phone that (I think) I have not seen
mentioned here. The OnePlus One seems to have a large screen, android
based, good camera. Does anybody have any experience / opinion ?

So, this popped up in a newsletter:

Now fragmentation is not a bad thing, just difficult for folks to
manage, especially developers. But what is interesting is just how
rich the android ecology is, but also how diverse.

And yes, the article is careful to point out samsung dominance and
consider some of its specific fragmentation issues/advantages.

It's a well considered, non fanboi article, useful for folks deciding
between various devices and form factors.

I did ask an android friend at Friam how he deletes apps on his
phone. He couldn't delete the ones we tried, basically samsung
built-in annoyances. Anyone know how?
