mutter 3.24.4

2017-07-19 Thread Florian Müllner
About mutter

Mutter is a window and compositing manager that displays and manages
your desktop via OpenGL. Mutter combines a sophisticated display
engine using the Clutter toolkit with solid window-management logic
inherited from the Metacity window manager.

While Mutter can be used stand-alone, it is primarily intended to be
used as the display core of a larger system such as GNOME Shell. For
this reason, Mutter is very extensible via plugins, which are used
both to add fancy visual effects and to rework the window management
behaviors to meet the needs of the environment.

gnome-shell 3.25.4

2017-07-19 Thread Florian Müllner
About GNOME Shell
=

GNOME Shell provides core user interface functions for the GNOME 3
desktop, like switching to windows and launching applications. GNOME
Shell takes advantage of the capabilities of modern graphics hardware
and introduces innovative user interface concepts to provide a
visually attractive and easy to use experience.

Tarball releases are provided largely for distributions to build
packages. If you are interested in building GNOME Shell from source,
we would recommend building from version control using the build
script described at:

 https://wiki.gnome.org/Projects/GnomeShell

Not only will that give you the very latest version of this rapidly
changing project, it will be much easier than get GNOME Shell and its
dependencies to build from tarballs.

gtk+ 3.91.1

2017-07-19 Thread Matthias Clasen
About gtk+
==

GTK+ is a multi-platform toolkit for creating graphical user
interfaces. Offering a complete set of widgets, GTK+ is suitable for
projects ranging from small one-off tools to complete application
suites.

GTK+ has been designed from the ground up to support a range of
languages, not only C/C++. Using GTK+ from languages such as Perl and
Python (especially in combination with the Glade GUI builder) provides
an effective method of rapid application development.

GTK+ is free software and part of the GNU Project. However, the
licensing terms for GTK+, the GNU LGPL, allow it to be used by all
developers, including those developing proprietary software, without
any license fees or royalties.

News

* Redo event delivery and focus handling and grabs, and stop using
subwindows for widgets. API changes due to this include:
  - a new GtkWidget::pick vfunc
  - drop event mask apis
  - drop windows from gestures

* The prelight state is now automatically set on widgets

* New widget: GtkCenterBox. This widget provides the center child
functionality that used to be part of GtkBox

tracker 1.99.1

2017-07-19 Thread Carlos Garnacho
About Tracker
=

Tracker is a semantic data storage for desktop and mobile devices.
Tracker uses W3C standards for RDF ontologies using Nepomuk with
SPARQL to query and update the data.

Tracker is a central repository of user information, that provides two
big benefits for the user; shared data between applications and
information which is relational to other information (for example:
mixing contacts with files, locations, activities and etc.).

News

WARNING: This is unstable development towards 2.0. There are API and
ABI incompatibilities that might affect you.

  * Notable speedups to tracker-miner-fs, main loop overhead was greatly
reduced by processing elements in batches. Indexing has been observed
to be up to 2x faster, and startup on an indexed and up-to-date
filesystem up to 3x.
  * More notable speedups to tracker-miner-fs startup, this applies only
to filesystems where the number of indexed folders exceed the amount
of inotify handles. Inotify monitoring is temporarily disabled during
filesystem mtime checks, resulting in up to 4x faster startup. (In
addition to the previous point).
  * Refurbished the allocation scheme for underlying DB interfaces. The
benefit is twofold, this makes TrackerSparqlConnections truly isolated
instances, and results in much reduced mutex contention on stress
situations.
  * Dropped deprecated API to get direct/bus connections. Use
tracker_sparql_connection_get().
  * Deprecated TrackerSparqlBuilder. Use TrackerResource.
  * Added tracker_sparql_connection_get_namespace_manager() to fetch the
namespaces as per the ontology of the connection.
  * Dropped support for non-standard SPARQL syntax "AS var", the right
syntax is "AS ?var", defined in SPARQL1.1 and accepted by Tracker
for a long time.
  * Added tracker:title-order() sparql function, only meant to be used
in "ORDER BY" clauses. It drops the common articles at the beginning
of the given variable for sorting purposes.
  * Fix shutdown issues on tracker-store introduced in 1.99.0. No more

gnome-builder 3.25.4

2017-07-19 Thread Christian Hergert
About Builder
=

Builder is an IDE for writing GNOME-based software. It is currently
under heavy development.

News

This release of Builder contains the largest UI change since the creation of
Builder. As this is mid-development cycle towards GNOME 3.26, we anticipate
breakage in this release. However, we value the time that people put into
testing things for us and doubly so for those that file bugs.

Generally, we try to keep the master branch fairly stable and usable. This
release will almost certainly have regressions due to the nature of the
redesign.

 • A new keybinding engine is being used. It is very young but maturing
quickly. Great pain has been experienced to merge the desires for
features we need with the backwards compatability to keep existing
features working such as the Vim compatability engine.
 • A new layout engine has been added. It has a few tricks up it's sleeve.
It can animate widgets between grid locations. It also can highlight
the view header to match the primary contents of the view. Under the
hood, the implementation has been vastly simplified.
 • Over/under splits can now contain separate documents and you are no
   longer limited to two.
 • The project tree has been modified to look/feel more like a listbox.
Future releases of Builder will keep the project-tree, but it will
likely be disabled by default in favor of a DzlStackList-based
   navigation.
 • The TODO plugin has been ported to C. It goes through a reasonable
amount of effort to keep memory allocations contiguous and footprint low.
 • Spellcheck has been moved into a plugin.
 • Color picker and spellcheck have been ported to use the new
"transient sidebar". They come into focus when it makes sense for them
to be visible based on context.
 • The symbol panel has been moved into the document header. It has also
been styled to feel more like a listbox with hover state.
 • Devhelp browsing has been moved into the document header for the
devhelp documentation view. It's a little bare at first, and we anticipate
this to improve in future snapshots.
 • The terminal supports the "primary-color" feature to style the document
header inline with the document content.
 • The build panel has been redsigned. It is placed on the left now to keep
   our workflow something like Left->Right.
 • The global search has been replaced to fit with the mockups, on the
top-right corner of the window. We expect more improvements to search
   in upcoming releases.
 • The "new-document" button has been replaced with a menu for various
   types of new documents.
 • Manu previous extension points now use menus.ui to populate their menu
content. This makes extending menus much more consistent across Builder.
 • Document preferences (tab size, spaces, language, etc) have been moved
into a transient sidebar. You can activate this with the menu item from
   the document header.
 • An "Open Pages" section has been added to the panel. It's not yet clear
if this will continue to be enabled by default or if it will be a plugin
   that can be enabled.
 • The beautifier plugin has yet to be ported to the new engine, and therefore
is disabled by default in this release.

Thanks in advance to all of our testers!

libdazzle 3.25.4

2017-07-19 Thread Christian Hergert
About libdazzle
===

libdazzle is a collection of fancy features for GLib and Gtk+ that
aren't quite ready or generic enough for use inside those libraries.
This is often a proving ground for new widget prototypes. Applications
such as Builder tend to drive development of this project.

News

We are mid-development cycle for GNOME 3.26 and so as you can imagine, we are
busy adding the features we need to libdazzle. Given how early the project is,
the pace of development has been quite rapid.

 • Updated build system to make things easier to maintain.
 • Soname and libtool-like versioning has been added. Like GObject and Gtk,
we don't intend on bumping this when we break ABI during development
snapshots. Only in the stable series.
 • Consistent LGPL-2.1+ usage.
 • DzlJoinedMenu is a new GMenuModel implementation that allows you to
concatenate multiple GMenuModel implementations. This can be useful
   in various plugin scenarios.
 • DzlMultiPaned has gone through more improvements. We know of a few more
that need to be shaken out before 3.26, but things are stabilizing.
 • Utilities to proxy action groups between GtkWidgets.
 • WIN64 build fixes for DzlTrie.
 • Examples have been added for DzlApplication and the CPU graph.
 • Many theming improvements.
 • DzlDockBin now tries to unpin a panel when animating out. This can give
the effect of smoother transitions where the cost of resizing the main
window content is high (such as with textviews).
 • Utilities for insertion with GtkListStore have been added.
 • DzlPropertiesGroup is a new GActionGroup that can help simplify exposing
groups of properties on a single object as a GActionGroup.
 • The DzlMenuMerger can now perform multi-phase sorting to increase the
chances of ideal placement with before/after among multiple menu items.
 • A new DzlMenuButton has been added that has a consistent style for a few
forms of MenuButton type scenarios. It can have icons, accelerators and
we expect in the future to keep the accelerator in sync with the active
shortcut theme. Some extended attributes with menus.ui are used.
 • DzlSuggestionEntry now supports a position function which can specify being
relative to the window or to the entry widget. Various position functions
   are provided as a convenience.
 • The shortcut engine has gained support for CAPTURE/BUBBLE semantics.
 • The shortcut engine has gained support for specifying global shortcuts
which can be activated outside the chain of focus.

We hope you enjoy using libdazzle!
