Re: FVWM: Draw text in background
Hi again, thank you all for your hints. root-tail works out of the box, but for flexibility and better formatting of the output, I'll give the label-in-FvwmButton-approach a shot. Looks pretty easy going. Giving this more thought, you might look at root-tail. Prints text directly to root window. -- Dan Espen

Not sure what you mean by "background mode", on the root window ? I guess it could be obtained with some Style options. About putting text labels, I have some, which are realized via FvwmButtons. Namely I have one called MyLabel which puts a motto in a random font on the bottom left of each page, and one called MyDesk which puts the desktop name in the bottom right corner (and updates automatically when I switch desk) I have forgottem how I did it, but you can get a feeling of the look in http://sax.iasf-milano.inaf.it/~lucio/WWW/Opinions/window.html#tre and further down there is a link to the config file which does that http://sax.iasf-milano.inaf.it/~lucio/WWW/Opinions/fvwmrc.now Feel free to inspire ... but expect no more support :-) Hope it helps -- Lucio Chiappetti - INAF/IASF - via Corti 12 - I-20133 Milano (Italy) For more info : http://www.iasf-milano.inaf.it/~lucio/personal.html "Can you see Enrico Fermi punching a time clock? You could almost certainly get your text into your background image with some creative use of pbmtext and pnmpaste, and probably another half-dozen pnm tools to glue it all together. There may be ways to do this (i.e., overlay text) with Imagemagick, as well. Perhaps figuring out how to put your calendar into a sticky, borderless, X window with a transparent background would also work. Looks like khal sends it's output to a terminal. There's nothing about a background image that would support a text terminal writing to it. I don't think you are on the right track but you might try a transparent, borderless, title-less terminal program. That will still leave you with something blocking window placement and root clicks. Maybe you want some kind of clock program that displays a calendar on request or some kind of appointment manager? -- Dan Espen
FVWM: Draw text in background
Hi all, currently, I use feh to set my background image in fvwm. Now I would like to draw text in the upper left corner (output of khal, showing my calendar). I experimented with the --info switch of feh, but the text block does not show up in background mode. Moreover, this method isn't very flexible. Any other hints doing this?
