Re: Apple G4 CPU upgrade options

2009-08-23 Thread Jasiu

My 400 MHZ G4 scored a 7 on the Uni test so it should take DP. So
what is the max processor I can just drop in. Anything will work as
long as it's a Sawtooth or Gig series? MDD?

The only straight drop ins from Apple that will increase your speed
are a single 500 from a Sawtooth or duals from the Gig ethernet
series. In order to use them the duals, you need to have a Uni-N
revision of 7 or higher. Here is a link to a download to test.

As to non Apple drop ins, most G4 accelerators will work. Most are
either autosensing or have dip switches to work with the motherboard
speed. The pins are the same from Sawtooth through Quicksilver, and
most manufacturers built their upgrades to fit all of those.

You can probably pick up a 900-1Ghz processor on the swap list for
 around $100.

There's a usb hub in that monitor, somewhere on the thing are some
ports, you connect the monitor to the computer for USB access.

Anything that is not from a Sawtooth or Gigabit Ethernet will not work
without modification, this includes CPUs from the Digital Audio
series, QuickSilvers and MDDs.

Chris

P.S. Good luck if you decide to go for Dual processors, let us know
how it goes!

Flash woe(s)

2009-08-23 Thread Ted Treen

Hi All,

Possibly OT - in which case I humbly apologise to the Nannies, but I use CS3,
and have a .swf (and its .fla) which I am trying to convert to .flv.

Flash CS3 doesn't seem to have an export to .flv - or if it does, I
can't find it in the program or in Flash Help.

Any Flash-experienced guru any ideas?

TIA

This could create a market for pulled CPUs

Re: Flash woe(s)

2009-08-23 Thread mark ray

I don't believe you can do it in Flash. I believe the Flash Converter
software included with CS3 may be able to do it. Otherwise it is a
cumbersome process.

Save to SWF in Flash (or AVI or MPG) import into (I still use Visual
Hub, now discontinued) and export as FLV.

HD Question

2009-08-23 Thread Stephen Conrad

Ok, I want to add another (3rd) HD to my new QS
I added one and it works fine.
I stuck one on the same cable (bus) as the Super Drive and I can see
it when i is set as Slave using one jumper (with System Profiler) but
I cannot format it using Disk Utility as Disk Utility doesn't see it.
I tried the Special Setting for Slave (using 2 jumpers) but this
doesn't work either.
So, what do I need to do here?

Also, I plugged a USB Flash drive into the ports on my KB but it says
there is not enough power available. Are these ports usable for Flash
Drives?
