Sounds like someone moved all the wireless mice around between the
computers, probably as a gag?

You'll either have to sort them out manually, or pair them again in

How do I get Safari to display in wide screen?

My G5 won't start up

2010-04-16 Thread JIM RAPER
Hi, Y'All, This morning when I went into my computer/library, I detected a
strong electrical smell. The computer system had been shut down Thursday
night and was still off this morning. I suspected at first my flourescent
magnifying lamp had a fried ballast. So not being that handy, I shut down
everything electrical and called the family electrician. He hasn't made it
yet. About 3:30 p.m. I used a flashlight to reconnect only my G-5 computer
system, punched the start button on the front, and got ABSOLUTELY NOTHING.
Now I'm really concerned, scared, almost terrified. I've had this G-5 only
since Dec '09. No trouble except the usual noisy fan(s).

Can someone give me a checklist to go through before I haul this heavy
behemoth 50+ miles to a repair dealership.

My invoice from Powermax lists it as Used Power Mac G5 PCI-X/2.5 GHz Dual
Processor 2GB RAM160 GB internal drive, internal SuperDriveKbrd, mouse ATI
Radeon 9600 XT Video OS 10.4.11 installed usual 90 day warranty gone past of
course.

Please suggest away. Jim

If the Mac was shut down it's VERY unlikely it's the Mac.

Where is that Mac plugged in? I suspect that outlet is what fried.

Sounds like someone moved all the wireless mice around between the
computers, probably as a gag?
You'll either have to sort them out manually, or pair them again
in the Bluetooth Preference Pane.
Actually it was the initial setup. He's currently using the old
wired mac mice from the old systems. This is a High School setting.
Has anyone had any experience with wireless mice in this kind off
lab? Will wireless be ok or should he keep using wired mice?

Ok I just fired up the G4 MDD Dual 1.25 in 10.5.8 and the Disk Utility
chokes out wit h an error Could not establish communication with helper

So I'm assuming this to be a Software problem. I also rebooted the MDD in

The issue just cannot only be at my Condo on just my machines, or can it?

I obtained another Leopard install disk and reinstalled the sysem on the G4 and
G5 PPC and the Disk Utility is not workig with the restore function. The
original one (a retail Leopard box set) does'nt work either on the PPC side.
 Why me??

Are all your cables tight? Try replacing the ethernet cables with
known-good ones. If that doesn't work try a different switch if you use
one.
