Re: Keyboard Mouse supplied with the PowerMac G4 MDD June 2003 models?

2012-03-25 Thread QuoVadis
Hi!

Mactracker states it came with an 'Apple Pro Mouse' and 'Apple Pro
Keyboard'. I know that MacTracker states the colour only when it is
something other than black; I'd say it came with the black Pro Mouse
Keyboard, just like its contemporaries did.

Greetings,

Eelco.

I have one of the last MDDs that could boot OS9, it's from 2003, the
German version. It came with a white Pro keyboard model nr. M7803 and
a white mouse nr. A1152.

Regards, Jörg.

Bit Off-topic: iPad recommends

2012-03-25 Thread DLC
Greetings all,
This is a bit off-topic (though I do sync my iPad to my G5, so maybe a
once-removed exception can be invoked).
I have an iPad 2, courtesy of work-related research, and am curious if
there are any recommended user groups that this fine consortium of
colleagues have discovered and would recommend.
My thanks in advance.
Best regards,
Dana

DVDs not playing. Exactly what does that mean? That's kindof like
saying your car won't go without offering any details -- we can't tell
if you lost your keys or forgot to open the garage door!

Do the discs not show up on your desktop? Can Finder open them? Can
VLC view them? Or is something locking up or ? What error message is
being displayed? Be specific, please!

Have you tried cleaning your DVD drive?

Check both the system.log and console.log for errors, both hard i/o
from the drive and soft errors from VLC while it's playing.

These DVD's are owned by my son, but he will not let me use the
originals, only the copies. I use MacTheRipper and then DVD2oneX2 to
set them up for Toast.

Why would you rip a dvd then reburn it like that? Just use Disk
Utility to duplicate the disc as-is without re-encoding it three times.

- Dan.

I have to agree here with Dan on two points:

When I owned my DA/533 I would encounter this problem from time to
time with disks that I either burned on the computer or were given to
me. With 10.4.11, I could see the disk via finder, however when I tried
to open them with Quicktime I could get a media unreadable error or
something to that effect. Cleaning the drive helped for awhile, however
it was a faulty drive that ended up being the issue. Like others have
said, you can procure one from geeks.com, newegg.com or really where
ever you would like for dirt cheap.

I may be completely wrong here, but as I recall, with the PowerMacs,
when sold came with the black keyboard and mouse, while the white sets
were sent out with the G4 iMacs and later G5's. While I have nothing to
base this one other than my own experience. My DA/533 came with a black
set, my iMac G4/800 came with a white set and my G5 came with black. So,
who knows. Either are nice keyboards, the mice do leave something to be
desired.
Too be honest, there are many third party sets out there that are more
bang for the buck.
