Re: I want to set up my G5 to run Linux

2016-02-12 Thread Eric Volker
I’m sorry I can’t really provide any specific advice, except to say that I
had a lot of problems setting up Linux on my G5 back in the day. I’d been
using Linux since the 90’s and had had a pretty good experience with
LinuxPPC on my old Motorola Starmax 5500, so I thought I’d try it out on my
dual 1.8GHz G5. I tried Ubuntu (back when there was an officially supported
PPC version) and a few other distros, and had nothing but problems -
particularly with the system fans. Since PPCs are now a small niche market,
I doubt the situation has improved. By all means try it out, but adjust
your expectations accordingly.

Re: I want to set up my G5 to run Linux

2016-02-12 Thread Jesse
I've actually done it, my last 2 systems were a g5 and a g4.. I have
since updated to an intel Mac ( my last systems were stolen) but I still have
the Slackintosh ISO's that are more secure on those machine as opposed to
leopard And I could walk you thru it also I just wish I had a g5
again, they are so dang fast... Hmmm hmmm AltiVec velocity engines I
still would rather watch movies and listen to my tunes on one of those instead.
If you interested in those I could make a torrent for you and get you a hash to
make sure it came thru properly for you

I want to set up my G5 to run Linux

2016-02-12 Thread GLT
I've looked around a little on the Web for how to set up a PowerMac G5 with
Linux, but could use suggestions/advice--*NOT* mere pointers to information
sources--and maybe a small amount of help by Email or phone (within the
USA). (I'm a long-time Mac user and know a little about Linux too, so I
shouldn't need much help by email or phone.)

Thanks!
