Re: My DA G4 died.
Agree with Valter with regards to power supply. I'm using an ATX PC power supply on my G4 mystic,,, higher wattage than the OEM though. I remember it being a total rewire job tracing back all the wires (24?) and connecting them to the correct/like voltage of the mac. Had to cut wires since the output plugs weren't compatible between the Mac and the ATX. It wasn't the easiest hack I've ever done, but that was 6-7 years ago and still running. Keyboards are pretty much interchangeable but remember that the boot process will only see USB hardwired inputs until the OS is mounted,,, have an old microsoft one that I use when wanting to initiate special commands during boot, ie single user mode. Re: My DA G4 died.
I was able to put the boot drive from the G4 into an enclosure and copy the data onto the boot drive of my dual G5. I was able to save my files. The chicklet keyboard has something wrong with it. The trackball works connected through it but sometimes the keyboard itself is spurious and sometimes dead. I am currently using a different keyboard. Out of curiosity I was looking at microsoft usb keyboards for cheap at office max/depot whatever it is. I would think this would work on a mac but it doesn't say on the box. Is this a possibility? Also I was checking specs between the G4 and my old Umax S900 and they both use PCI cards. Would the Sonnet ATA133 work in the S900. It currently has a Sonnet ATA100 and use the bigger drives from the G4 in the S900? I know OSX would totally screw up the S900 because I tried booting and OSX CD with it once. Big mistake.
