Re: Communicating to my iphone

2017-10-01 Thread Thomas Fritsch
Sorry it snot an easy idea, but it's all that comes to mind as nothing i
could test or do would be valid as i only still have my aging
iphone4(non-S), but i cant be certain, You might be able to do something w/
Linux. the most upto date distro i think available for PowerPC's is Ubuntu
MATE 16.04.1 (which looses Extended Support in 2019 :/ ), i couldn't get it
to run on my G5 (Dual 2.0ghz G5's) *shrugs* but i believe its due to it
had one of the troublesome Videocards. (and my G4 doesnt have a DVD Drive
so i cant test anyway) at worst long as your carefull, your only going to
loose time. partition haphazardly or accidentally the layout or the OSX
Partition, then RIP all your data :/ i hope something thats easier that'll
work for you comes along.

if yours was an intel mac i would of suggested just setting up bootcamp
and installing Windows 7

ok i havent powered it up in awhile and apparently the GPU was upgraded

will hunt down (if anyone actually has suggestions) for a compatible MAC

Need to be “specific” about the “exact” Mac.

I’m going to assuming you’re referring to an iMac G3, and by “internal
display” you mean the built-in CRT? If this is correct, there are two
types, the early tray loading CD models, and the later slot-loading CD
models. The slot loading have a hidden external VGA port beneath a panel
which can be attached to any suitable external monitor, it’s above the RAM
cover. The tray loading don’t have this, and would require a modification
of the internal CRT wiring to adapt it to a standard VGA external output
port. This has been done before, but it’s tricky because the power and the
video signals are separated in the iMac, so you’d need pin-out diagrams and
specific instructions for the modification. If it’s not a slot-loading with
VGA port available, it’s not worth the time to modify in my opinion.
Honestly, these old G3’s probably need recycling.

Your problem is that you haven’t reformatted the HD to Apple Partition
Format, it’s still Master Boot Record partition format. In Disk Utility,
highlight the HD itself, and then under Options select Apple Partition
Format. Then select however many partitions you want, and size them
accordingly. You probably only need a few GB for OS 9, and honestly you
don’t actually even need a separate partition for OS 9, it can reside on
the same partition as OS X and still be dual bootable via the Option key
boot. In most cases OS 9 runs faster as Classic emulation under OS X than
it does natively booted. The only reason to boot OS 9 rather than run as
Classic would be special hardware that lacks any OS X support or drivers.
Almost all printers, scanners, and other standard hardware are still
 accessible from Classic.

On an OS X Tiger 10.4 installation, nothing is required beyond CD 1 if you
deselect every possible Optional installation during the setup, and only
check “Install Base System”. All of the other software can be installed
AFTER by inserting CD 2, 3, or 4 and double-clicking any of the installer
packages. Since virtually every piece of optional software has been
upgraded and will need the equivalent of a complete reinstall, it will be
faster to download the newer updates and install them directly than to
install them from CD, and then download and reinstall the updates. When I
install Tiger I rarely ever use anything past CD 1. A large part is your
exact problem, the installation fails with an error message that can be
avoided with little or no downside.

Re: Classic Environment

2012-09-30 Thread Thomas Fritsch
umm now its been ages since i really messed with classic, but wasnt classic
removed from 10.5/.6/.7 ? i know it was from .7 as 10.7 was Intel Only thus
unable to run anything from PPC macs.

have no problem with PS 7.

I'm no Photoshop expert, but I thought that Photoshop 7.0 and the
update 7.01 were carbon apps that ran in both Mac OS and also OS X
natively. I don't think you need the Classic environment to run
Photoshop 7.01 in OS X, is should launch within OS X natively I think?

Yes, it runs just fine in 10.4.11 without Classic. It will *not* run on
10.5.8, however. It will also run on OS 9, though I usually prefer 5.5
 there.

I prefer Photoshop 7.0.1 to any of the later CS releases because it is the
last Photoshop that doesn't require Adobe's ridiculous activation scheme.

Marathon series. Games are so good Microsoft bought the company
(Bungee) to get Halo (and keep it for the original Xbox and away from
  the Mac)

Another vote for Marathon. Also, if you like spooky and are not a
high resolution fanatic, I highly recommend Pathways into Darkness.
This is the game that Bungee wrote before the Marathon series and I
find it to be excellent. It's a first-person shooter, but there's
much more story and puzzles that are integral to the game than in most
such games I've played. Also, it has a really engrossing, spooky
vibe, which is good because your sprite is invading an abandoned
pyramid full of monsters and spooks generated by the fevered dreams of
a sleeping god. Ammunition management is key, early in the game.

PID will actually run well on a late 68K machine.

Oh, and for fantasy combat, Diablo is fun.

If you like real-time strategy/tactical games, there's always the
original Warcraft, and Warcraft II, and Starcraft and Starcraft:
Broodwar. Also, Age of Empires for the Mac.

Turn based strategy: I'm fond of Imperialism, but it has a bug or two
which will very infrequently cause it to lock up. Like maybe once in
20 games. Space based, there's Spaceward Ho!

I'm also very fond of the shareware Asterax game. I contacted the
author back in the 90s to update his address, and mailed him a check
for it, but he never cashed it. It's an asteroids based game in which
one can collect resources from the destroyed asteroids and upgrade
 one's ship.

Oh, speaking of space based games, I adore Spaceward Ho! which is a
turn based resource/galaxy conquering game. Also, don't forget Delta
Tao's Escape Velocity which is a real-time spacecraft shooter.
