Re: Over clocking G4

  how safe is it?

That depends. If you are thinking of adjusting voltage and clock timings
in 'BIOS' the answer is no. Certain models used resisters on the logic
board to set CPU speed, bus speed, etc… But those are older models and
it's not as easy as overclocking in the Windows world.

And then there were some CPU upgrades available for some Mac models that
would increase the CPU clock speed, but you were still stuck with a
 fairly slow bus speed.

There have been some successful board transplants, such as a 1.25 GHz
board into a 1 GHz Power Mac, or a 1.25 GHz board into a 700/800 MHz iMac.

Your options depend entirely on what MODEL of Mac you have and WHICH G4
Power PC is in it. The list can be of more help if you are more specific
 in your request.

Mac won't boot up.

2010-06-03 Thread stevo137
I have a G4 Mac, 10.3.9 panther, 400 processor, 40 gb hard drive. I
tired it on and it went to a square where it showed the finder icon
and it blinked to a question mark. I tried to use the installation
disk to start it. I was trying to re install panther but, when it came
to find the hard drive to install I could not go anywhere.

I think it maybe the hard drive?

Does the connector on the Mac have rounded ends? If so it's not a DVI,

I agree with the general public here. My G4 Digital Audio 466, with

The speed curve on PPCs went up until Tiger, but after that it went
down again, meaning that Tiger is faster than Panther, but Leopard is
  slower than Tiger.

If you can give specific reasons why you would want to upgrade to
10.5, people can give more detailed advice, or alternative solutions
that work in 10.4. Speaking in general, I think 10.4.11 is the sweet
  spot for your Mac.

Stevo Is there a program you have to have 10.5 for? I just put 10.5.8 on one
of my doctors G4 700 iMac's  PITA 5 hours With CCC but they have a scheduling
app that also runs on their new Intel G5 iMacs and has to have 10.5,
otherwise Tiger is the ruler on the PPCs. Leopard has some nice features.
Spaces is one But like I said before don't try to rip and burn It doesn't
work on any of my PPC machines Single or dual.
