Greetings all. I have a question for those who have dealt with an

We purchased a new Mac Pro and MacBook Pro recently. Both were to have

was unlike any DVI configuration I had seen (and indeed, no DVI
monitor that we own can connect to this adapter).

Does it look like this?

That looks like a normal DVI interface to me. It's strictly digital;
it's lacking the pins around the wide pin for the analog lines; if
your existing DVI monitor cable has them, you may need to get a new
cable. If the adapter doesn't look like that, then you've been getting
the wrong part all along...

I'd reccomend Monoprice http://www.monoprice.com they've got the
best deals on cabling (and other AV accessories!) going.

(Related, but OT: If you get a shiny new LCD TV this season, don't pay
Best Buy prices for HDMI cables or Wall Mounts, go to Monoprice.

The mount that Costco wanted to sell me for $89 cost me $29 at
Monoprice. A 6' HDMI cable is about $6-7.)

Hi Bruce,
Thanks for the response and information.
 Does it look like this?
Well, yes and no - that's the product, ours does not have that extra
perpendicular slot on the left (middle picture at Apple page)

 I'd recommend Monoprice

Thanks for the tip! - looks like great prices.
Happy Holidays,
Dana

P.S. - for Fabian - I'll take such queries to the Intel group next time,
thank you for that tip.

Well, that's odd, because that's supposed to be that exact product.

I'm fairly certain that that slot is part of the DVI spec...

Apple DVI Adapter query

2009-12-22 Thread DLC
Greetings all. I have a question for those who have dealt with an
adapter from Apple that is being sold these days.
We purchased a new Mac Pro and MacBook Pro recently. Both were to have
been provided with a Mini Display Port to DVI adapter
(not the former mini-DVI to DVI adapter) - they were, but the DVI end
was unlike any DVI configuration I had seen (and indeed, no DVI
monitor that we own can connect to this adapter). I called Apple, and
they were, citing possible production issues, willing to send me two
new ones, which they did. Darned if the new ones didn't have the same
questionable design.
I go here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_Visual_Interface
for a visual of various DVI grid arrangements - all our adapters look
like none of these (on the left side of the female face is supposed
to be at the very least a slot - ours has nothing, nada, zip).
So, my question: for those of you who have such an adapter, what kind
of DVI adapter should I be expecting? Should I contact Apple *again*
and ask for new ones (I'm inclined to do so, but want to know what
type of adapter to cite).
Thank you much; Happy Holidays to all,
Dana
