Isn't that the implication from what was said? NO. The original poster objected to the city, state info but was comfortable with a simple zip code. Anything further is to specific. Yep. Including my last name. Which is not all that common. Hell, even without my zip code I can be found. My ebay profile lists New England. Anyway, before this is completely locked down, my original question - are there any other Mac buy/sell lists other than Craigslist/ebay? Thanks! Diane in New England breathlessly awaiting her SATA card, 2 500gb hard drives and a 5 port USB card to put in her G4 1.42DP ps - I never thought my simple query would get so out of hand. This is one of the odder posts I've seen on this list. Many of the posts seem missing so not sure what is going on. But will answer the queestion I see. Dan's Lowend Mac Swap List is a great place to sell and put wanted requests. It seems safer friendlier then most other online sites. It is also to be found @ Google Groups . Info to be found at : http://lowendmac.com/lists/swap.html Hope this answers your question. Will S On Sep 30, 11:48 am, diane [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Isn't that the implication from what was said? I've never seen anything like it. Spring early summer I had no such problems . Perhaps the economy is having an effect on this. Buy/Sell lists?
I rejoined the LEM Swaplist which I fell off of when it migrated to Google to sell a few things. Somewhere along the lines they now require a full name and city/state when posting to the list. I listed my zip code which is what I used to do, but my message was rejected since I did not follow the rules. Are there any other lists that are maybe a little more private? I do not feel like posting that much info to over 3000 people on the off chance that someone may be interested in my obscure items. And yes, I am full aware there are many other ways to find my full name and address, and that there have been for many many years. Re: Buy/Sell lists?
Give a phony name and street address. If someone expresses interest, you can straighten it out with them at that time. Half the sellers are doing it this way. Speaking as a Swaplist nanny, this is a bad idea. The reason the stupid rule came into being was so that persons could decide if the seller and buyer were geographically near. A ZIP code was all that was ever necessary but administrative pride got in the way of good sense. This is not the reason for the rule. I would also like to clarify that the Swaplist rules only ask for your name and city/state/zip in public postings. There is no need to post your street address to the list. Here's the mini-FAQ with relevant rules: http://groups.google.com/group/lemswap/browse_thread/thread/1853a96bfcd7d3f9# These rules are for the protection of all swappers. If anyone wants to discuss these rules further the place to do it would be the LEMlists group, not here.
