Yup, when Mirroring just works (same size displays, and ain't boring) all is good, altho for separate resolutions, their matchup choices are deadon purty real easy on ol' peepers, too. Mostly I tend to like darker pictures, that contrast well with the desktop icons. tip: The desktop background gizmo in OS X isn't very smart. It seems to suck up a LOT more memory, and hold onto it forever, if it has to do any picture resizing. There's also the xtra CPU time it takes to do that resizing on the fly... So to make things more efficient/faster, I've found that resizing the pictures to the exact display size using an app such as GraphicConverter works well. If it is not in the scan or photo detail cannot be gotten out of thin air or thin pixels either. You're correct, scaling does not convey any more detail. However it's a better solution for a picture you do not have in the correct resolution than letting the mac stretch it. Here is the image I linked to earlier: http://dbdev2.pharmacy.arizona.edu/miscjunk/smallcownose.jpg Here it is blown up in SmillaEnlarger to screen size for a 27 iMac: http://dbdev2.pharmacy.arizona.edu/miscjunk/cownose_rays.jpg It's a little soft, a little grainy, but a lot better than just letting the Mac stretch it. For the purposes of having something pretty to have on my desktop it's perfectly acceptable, imo. YMMV. -- Bruce Johnson University of Arizona College of Pharmacy Information Technology Group Institutions do not have opinions, merely customs -- You received this message because you are a member of G-Group, a group for those using G3, G4, and G5 desktop Macs - with a particular focus on Power Macs. Embarrass = emblush. Or something like that. Reminds me of a writer on my staff who used to make up words when he couldn't find the right word in the dictionary because he didn't know how to spell it. Amazingly, he always spelled the made-up word correctly (according to English usage rules), but couldn't find real words even when he was given hints. OTOH, that's why English is an always evolving, living language. Which is a good thing. Imagine what it would be like if the English-speaking world hadn't evolved beyond Middle English. If you can't imagine that, try reading a couple pages of Geoffrey Chaucer's Canterbury Tales in the original ME text, and then figure out what he was talking about. :^) -- Jim -- You received this message because you are a member of G-Group, a group for those using G3, G4, and G5 desktop Macs - with a particular focus on Power Macs.
