Beige G3's or B&W G3's? If they're beige, you need a bunch of these:

This isn't necessarily the best price, just an
illustration of the correct part.

B&W G3's use normal VGA connectors.

Monitor clarification on G3, G4 computers

2010-11-09 Thread Jonas Lopez
Monitor clarification on G3, G4 computers

We have just received about 20 G3's, but they were told the CRTs were dangerous
and hazardous and so had to be disposed of in the special trash.

So we have no monitors.

As I understand it, the G4 uses the same as the windows and so monitors are
plentiful, but the G3 uses older Mac specific connectors.

Is there a converter for old mac to new monitor and where and at what cost.

This donation may not work out as the monitor issues are not surmountable for a
price of free or close to it.

I thought of that also, but I looked and looked couldn't find any break-out
ports; I'll look again!

There's a usb hub in that monitor, somewhere on the thing are some
ports, you connect the monitor to the computer for USB access.

Thanks, Bruce. The monitor n question is the LP3065 - I had the wrong no.
quoted. It has/uses three cables (two DVI, dual link I presume, and 1 USB,
for what I don't know, prob. some installable features that also weren't
explained in the manual) - the unit came with all 3; the USB cable inclusion
is esp. a surprise, yes!
Best regards,
Dana

That is not an HP model number, afaik, perhaps this monitor originally
shipped with some other piece of equipment, which is how the extra
cable got in there...as I said, in my experience HP is a legendary
cheapskate when it comes to including cables.

Hi Clark, Thank you for the response (and for Bruce in effect stating the
same thing); here's where I am at:
We tried one cable and "ta-da" it worked. Whew! Yes, it appears on the
monitor that a second connection would be honored - the front has an "Input"
button which, I suspect, would toggle between the two video sources, if a
second unit was attached (which I am trying on Monday. I say "appear" since
the owner's manual (if one calls it such) mentions nothing about such an
arrangement (it pretty much mentions nothing). The bright yellow sticker on
one of the DVI cables that screams "the M-3015 MUST use both cables!" did
give me cause for concern.
Thanks for chiming in,
Dana

Are you sure it's simply not dual link with the ability to take input
from two computers, hence to DVI connectors. Some quick research shows
Dual link connectors use additional pin locations in the DVI connector
but are still a single connector.

This allows you to connect two computers simultaneously not that you
need two connectors to use it.

 From their info page:

" Three dual-link DVI connectors enable simultaneous connection to
three workstations or PCs."

I'm kind of amazed that HP included two video cables; they're too
cheap to include a $2 USB cable with their printers...

Monitor clarification

2009-08-21 Thread Dana Collins

Am hoping a knowledgeable individual will throw out a clarification
for me, re: larger 30" monitors.
About six months ago, I investigated what "dual - link DVI" means
(like that required for the Apple 30" display), with a concern towards
uch a unit requiring two actual, physical DVI connections to the video
card. At that time, the consensus was that only one cable was needed
and that the issue of "dual-link" was in the manner of the
communication.
Got a 30" HP monitor today in the studio - it is dual link and it
requires TWO cabled connectivity.
So, which is it, all dual-link DVI monitors need two physical
connections, or only some?

Thanks in advance for any help.
Best regards,
Dana
