Read the VLC instructions.
v1.0.0 is LEOPARD ONLY.
This means that ALL G3 Macs can only use v.0.9.9a, and only if they
have 10.4.11.

Also - it is possible to install Leopard on Beige, but you'd need a G4
CPU, a Radeon or nVidia PCI card, and some persistence. See
instructions here:
