There are boxes that hold two drives, usually identical ones. Whether they can provide an enclosure with a internal chipset which can handle what you propose is the question. Re: a FW box with a HDD, and a DVD ROM/RW?
Mullin9 wrote: Do anyone make FireWire Enclosure that holds a HDD, and a DVD ROM/RW There are bridge boards which have a FireWire connection on the outside and an IDE connection on the inside.Single IDE bridge boards are used in the typical FireWire enclosures, of course. But there are also dual and even quadruple bridge boards available. So what you really want is a dual IDE to FireWire bridge board and an enclosure with power supply which will hold two 5.25 devices. Then you can put the hard drive in one of hte 5.25 bays with some rail adapters. Back in the days of SCSI this kind of thing was very commonly done. The only difference now is that you need a FireWire/IDE bridge board instead of an external/internal SCSI cable on the enclosure. In fact, you can use an old SCSI enclosure of the proper size and just switch the SCSI cabling with the bridge board. Firewire Depot used to be a convenient source for the bridge boards, but they shut down some time in the last year or so. I don't know where is good to buy them now. I think that Intech was a common manufacturer of the boards, so you might search a bit on their name and on FireWire. Did you mean an enclosure that holds both a HDD and a DVD burner simultaneously? If so, no, I've never heard of anything like that. Other than a computer, of course ... Or did you just mean an enclosure that could house either a HDD *or* a DVD burner. In that case, yes, pretty much any 5.25 FW enclosure should be able to handle that. Of course, both the HDD and the DVD burner would have to use the same interface. Either both need to be PATA with a PATA enclosure or (probably more useful in the future) everything would need to use SATA. Is that what you're asking about? -irrational john --~--~-~--~~~---~--~~ You received this message because you are subscribed Low End Mac's G3-5 List, a group for those using G3, G4, and G5 desktop Macs - with a particular focus on Power Macs.
