Summary: crash with MSN group chat

Initial Comment:
Gaim crashed with group chat. At the moment of writing some people want to
group chat with me on MSN. But every time I get invited, Gaim crashes.

The funny thing is, at first I ended up in a group chat with them, but then
suddenly (?) Gaim crashed.

I've been having the same problem. For at least a week, probably 2.

When I am in a chat, sometimes it crashes within seconds, but sometimes I
get a minute or 2.

Unfortunately, MSN doesn't allow you to approve before being sucked into a
chat. If I walk away for 5 minutes, when i come back i find that someone
invited me to a chat and it crashed, and i lost all the messages from
private messages that people sent me during that time.

I tried to get some technical data to post here, but I was unable to.

I tried un-installing and re-installing. No luck. Also, I thought I
might have recently upgraded to the beta6 from the beta5, and that might
have been involved. So, i un-installed beta6 and installed beta5, but no
luck.

I have been driven to using Meebo's web interface temporarily, but I don't
like it. I hope you get this worked out soon!

My apologies, it's a little bit chaotic inside my head.

The 'Gaim screens' I refer to are the main window and the chat window.

Every time, except for the first one, I never got to see any messages or
any of the buddies.

I changed priority to 7 because for me it's a killer bug. And I see no way
for me to work around it. Though it's not a bug that will affect everyone
all the time.

sorry, pressed return when trying to hit backspace. And I see no way to
edit the message.

[continues]
When Gaim crashed for the first time I suspect someone else got added to
the chat, but I'm not sure, as I never saw it coming (bad phun intended)

After that I tried to restart Gaim and it went dead a few seconds later.

I tried to get some gdb info, but it showed multiple ??() methods.
As a Gentoo user I then emerged Gaim with the debug flag on. I then ran
gdb gaim and waited.

It was just another matter of seconds before I got invited again. The
funny thing was though that this time the Gaim screens were open, but
filled with white. Later gdb would tell me that Gaim was still running.

Now I think of it, yesterday someone said he tried to add me to a MSN
chat, but couldn't. I'm not sure if this is at all related though.

gdb speaks of gstreamer to be the last one called (right?). I don't have
any problems with sound afaik. Gaim bleeps and squeaks fine when needed.

Summary: Offline cyrillic messages garbled

Initial Comment:
Hello,

I'm having trouble receiving cyrillic messages from different ICQ clients (ICQ,
Miranda) whenever they have been sent while I'm offline. Gaim displays cyrillic
characters correctly during chats, but whenever I log in and an offline message
from someone pops out it's all gibberish.

This has been a constant problem with all the betas, currently using 2.0.0 beta
6 on Windows XP.
I can't remember whether I had the same problem with older versions.
I'm also using Gaim on a portable usb and I get the same problem on different
machines, so it can't be from the particular PC.

Stan

Initial Comment:
I downloaded Gaim 2.0Beta6 earlier today for Windows and I can no longer use
away messages. The option is there and I can choose them saved away messages
and they won't display anything, and if I try to type a message in using the
Away option I don't get a textbox(it just goes straight to Away). My status
bar at the bottom of the buddy list displays the appropriate status but it will
have no actual affect on how I'm displayed on my own/other's buddy lists.

While gaim isn't running, try copying your status.xml (from
%APPDATA%\.gaim ) to a different directory and see if this fixes the
problem.

If so, please attach the broken status.xml to this bug report.

Summary: ICQ sign-on causes unable to add error

Initial Comment:
There are at least two mutually very similar bugs: bug #1641523 and bug
#1641580. And both are, IMHO, closed groundlessly. I believe they are distinct
from bug #1586522 (which was referred, when bug #1658982 was closed as
duplicit). Thus, I am trying to reopen the issue.

The bugs #1641523 and #1641580 say the same what I am suffering now:
Immediately after upgrading Gaim from 2.0.0-b5 to 2.0.0-b6, I started to face
already mentioned error message (Unable to Add: Could not add the buddy 1 for
an unknown reason. The most common reason for this is that you have max number
of allowed buddies in your buddy list.). Obviously, the message could not be
true for me.

I hope, the association of my error message with beta4 (as suggests bug
#1586522) does not apply to me, too: I am sure I was running at least beta3 and
beta5 (and maybe also beta4), and neither of them had similar symptom. Also,
the error message is not triggered by any buddy-list activity. I am only trying
to get online with my ICQ account.

For the bug #1641523, the developer suggests to unload nautilus plugin. I am
not much sure, what this is, but none of my plugins has word 'Nautilus' in its
name or description. All in all, I have enabled only 5 of some 27 plugins. I
also checked my nautilus plugins, and only one of them had Gaim in its
description -- and it is not installed (and never was).

To provide more feedback, which might be very closely related with the origin
of mentioned error message, I'd like to mention one more thing, which got worse
after upgrading to beta6. All of my ICQ buddies now I see as blocked or ignored
(I cannot distinguish these two emblems). When I right click on the buddy and I
select Unblock, I receive very similar error message. Only proper ICQ UIN is
filled.

A propos, I was not successful with building my *.deb installation file (most
likely a mistake in Debian stuff). So I needed to obtain some ready-made. When
I run gdb gaim with this build, and follow the suggestions, the application
fails with Program exited with code 0177. Thus I am providing just very basic
info. Kernel: 2.6.20.1, os: Debian Ubuntu Edgy, architecture: x86_64, Gaim:
2.0.0-b6.

Summary: virtual memory usage and lock up

Initial Comment:
i just upgraded to the newset version of gaim and after
leaving the computer on for a few hours i have a error
msg from windows about the virtual memory min being
too low
and in taks manager it says that gaim.exe is using about
400,000 kb of virtual memory and it is not responding to
me
i think it might be a memory leak somewhere that after a
while uses all the virtual memory and makes it crash
i'll start using that debug version that makes a stack
dump and add that if it happens again
hope this helps

Do you have your tab placement set to something other than on top?

Summary: Update Planet Gaim blog more often, add support for comments

Initial Comment:
You created Planet Gaim to give us more frequent updates. In the past three
months, Planet Gaim has had no unique updates other than those that can already
be obtained from Gaim's main page.

You could also add support for follow-up comments on Planet Gaim.
