Summary: GAIM doesnt encrypt account passwords in accounts.xml

Initial Comment:
A friend of mine informed me that gaim doesnt encrypt passwords, so I went
digging. Sure enough, he's correct. Gaim stores saved passwords as plaintext
on the filesystem in ~/.gaim/accounts.xml

This may have been fixed in the 2.0 series, but I am not yet using 2.0. If
this has been resolved in the 2.0, please reply with an acknowledgment of the
resolution.

Thank you!

Summary: GAIM crashes on status change

Initial Comment:
I have Windows XP, SP2
GAIM Beta 2,v6

When I change the status from Away (which it the status it uses when I open it)
to anything else I get this error:

AppName: gaim.exeAppVer: 2.0.0.0 ModName: msvcrt.dll
ModVer: 7.0.2600.2180Offset: 00037740

This only happens when I double-click and open the window then select the
status from the pulldown. It doesn't happen when I right-click on the tray icon
and change the status.

Looks to be duplicate to gaim-Bugs-1653351

Summary: Adding new friend shows a huge list of groups

Initial Comment:
Hi all.
When Im adding a new friend, instead of selecting from a list of groups that
belong to my msn account I see a huge list of groups that have been stored from
other accounts that have been used in my computer. But those accounts dont
exist in my accounts list.

Summary: tray icon - msn

Initial Comment:
-connect to msn in gaim
-connect to msn from different location (i used meebo.com but doubt it matters)
-gaim shows a message, also changes the tray icon to indicate there's a message
-close the message
-icon remains in message waiting or away state instead of returning to
available
-manually selecting available does not change the icon (not sure what status
others see)
-CTRL-A and uncheck all boxes, then re-check all boxes makes the icon return to
available

Initial Comment:
Hej there,
I experienced some problems trying to use dbus to update jabber's status
message:

when I set the statusmessage with GaimStatusSetAttrString
and retrieve it with GaimStatusGetAttrString it seems to be working,
but the status isn't really being changed in gaim, only in the dbus backend...

Summary: Lost ICQ messages after connection timeout

Initial Comment:
Using the oscar protocol, messages are never received by the recipient before
Gaim finally detects a connection timeout.

I don't know how much control there is over this, but at least once per day my
internet connection times out (I imagine due to an IP address change or
something). During the time before Gaim realises, I can still send messages to
ICQ contacts, however, the messages never arrive and I end up pasting my
history into the chat window of the recipient after we both discover some part
of the conversation is missing. As you can imagine, it is a tad frustrating.

Here is the latest example reconstructed from my chat and system logs:

appears gaim detects that the connection timed out at 22:45:03, but in fact a
message was received from the recipient before that. I can't explain that. The
recipient is also using Gaim.

Is it possible to change the connection timeout somehow? I can't find anything
in any options.

Summary: ICQ sign-on causes \unable to add\ error

Initial Comment:
There are at least two mutually very similar bugs: bug #1641523 and bug
#1641580. And both are, IMHO, closed groundlessly. I believe they are distinct
from bug #1586522 (which was referred, when bug #1658982 was closed as
duplicit). Thus, I am trying to reopen the issue.

The bugs #1641523 and #1641580 say the same what I am suffering now:
Immediately after upgrading Gaim from 2.0.0-b5 to 2.0.0-b6, I started to face
already mentioned error message (Unable to Add: Could not add the buddy 1 for
an unknown reason. The most common reason for this is that you have max number
of allowed buddies in your buddy list.). Obviously, the message could not be
true for me.

I hope, the association of my error message with beta4 (as suggests bug
#1586522) does not apply to me, too: I am sure I was running at least beta3 and
beta5 (and maybe also beta4), and neither of them had similar symptom. Also,
the error message is not triggered by any buddy-list activity. I am only trying
to get online with my ICQ account.

For the bug #1641523, the developer suggests to unload nautilus plugin. I am
not much sure, what this is, but none of my plugins has word 'Nautilus' in its
name or description. All in all, I have enabled only 5 of some 27 plugins. I
also checked my nautilus plugins, and only one of them had Gaim in its
description -- and it is not installed (and never was).

To provide more feedback, which might be very closely related with the origin
of mentioned error message, I'd like to mention one more thing, which got worse
after upgrading to beta6. All of my ICQ buddies now I see as blocked or ignored
(I cannot distinguish these two emblems). When I right click on the buddy and I
select Unblock, I receive very similar error message. Only proper ICQ UIN is
filled.

A propos, I was not successful with building my *.deb installation file (most
likely a mistake in Debian stuff). So I needed to obtain some ready-made. When
I run gdb gaim with this build, and follow the suggestions, the application
fails with Program exited with code 0177. Thus I am providing just very basic
info. Kernel: 2.6.20.1, os: Debian Ubuntu Edgy, architecture: x86_64, Gaim:
2.0.0-b6.

I added an account to the gaim application for use with the silc protocol. The
account used the same screen name as an existing account, however it was
pointed to a different server.

While trying to connect gaim started to segfault.

Summary: Adding a Jabber buddy creates a duplicated entry.

Initial Comment:
I have a intermitent problem that happens when I add a new Jabber user. When I
ask another user to see his presence, he is added to my roster. Later, when he
authorizes me, Gaim asks me for my authorization. After granting his
authorization Gaim asks me if I want to include him in my roster (even though I
was the one invinting in the first place), if I click Add I get a duplicated
contact.

This problem doesn't happen with all clients (client of the other part), but
seem to affect all servers. I've experienced it using the GTalk server and a
Jabberd2 server under my control. I can't reproduce it with two instances of
Gaim, but I can reproduce the bug reliably using Gaim and the Gizmo client. I
also believe I saw the bug when interacting with a user of the Orkut client(!).

This bug was previously reported as bug #1583930, but it keeps closing due the
lack of activity from the original poster. More information can be found there.

I'm attaching the Debug Window output of my side of the transaction.

Yeah I think that's pretty obvious..;) Just didn't want to create more
spam (like people here are mad double-posting stupid bugs); Basically I've
removed all groups using ICQ and MSN clients and then went back into GAIM,
because groups are really *not working the way they're supposed to* btw. So
all is well now I suppose I won't be using them until some later date.

beta 6 when dragging an icq contact from group to group a duplicate is
created (in destination group); removing (presumably either, only tried
with one) contact causes it to disappear (not confirmed, too much
confusion, too little time :() - also found to be true when checking with
the icq client (upon removal of one duplicate from gaim) and since a logout
is forced from gaim, once returned (icq client shut down) the duplicate icq
contact is gone also. strange; hope it helps.

Regards,
Vladimir

And actually looking at the debug output more carefully, the other client
isn't telling you that you can add them until the very end so gaim is doing
the right thing I believe. I'll bet if you get the gaim-gaim debug output
you'll spot the difference.
To point to the lines in the current log that I'm talking about you'll
notice that gaim does the right thing when your buddy sends you the
(ssl)(142) line near the bottom where they say type='subscribed' but
they *don't* send that earlier when they send (ssl)(149) and ask you to
let them add you.

Can you possibly try this with beta 6? Can you get the debug output of two
copies of gaim (when it works correctly)? I was pretty sure I fixed this
for the general case, but then I think it got broken again for a short
while and I'm not sure when it got fixed again. I could check but I'm lazy.

Initial Comment:
Hi,
I was chatting with a friend (call him A) and another friend (B) sent me a
message. Later I look in my logs with B, and I see some of the things I said to
and from A in that file! And even some system log entries (someone going
offline, that someone being C).

I also looked into my logs with B (using a web browser since it's HTML) and I
see some of things A said ended up there.

It feels like Gaim (or somebody) is mixing up the file-handles, badly. This is
on Windows 2000 (NTFS), And yes, my logs directory is pretty large. Anyone care
to venture a guess as to what might be happening?

I've had the same issue. I have Windows XP Pro and was online with both my
AIM and Yahoo accounts. My logs are saved as text. I cut and pasted the
conversations in the right logs and found that some of them were missing.
Most of the non-missing logs were in a log of someone I was talking to at
the same time. I didn't find the missing logs. I don't know if they ended
up on earlier logs or just disappeared. I checked logs of everyone I talked
to that day. As I look at my logs a lot, I haven't use GAIM for anything
but AIM since. So I only have a this one occurrence to report.

As you can see in the crash report, it is crashing in vlsp.dll.

Summary: Gaim IM memory conservation

Initial Comment:
Well i was going to test out the effectivness of gaim
to stand thousand of IM's on yahoo messenger. At first
the whole gaim program locked up not affecting the
system then after a while it started to take up all of
my swap file then after it took up my whole swap file
there was no way i could recover my whole system seemed
to be bogged down by the overwritting of the swap file
over and over agian. i am on a 700 mHz system with
185 mb of ram 380 mb swap.
