Summary: Protocol drop-down box is deprecated + not accessible

Initial Comment:
Using GAIM 2.0.0 beta 6:

Gaim's Protocol: drop-down box in the 'Add Account' dialog is currently a
GtkOptionMenu. This is a
deprecated widget, and is NOT accessible for disabled users of Gaim.

GtkComboBox is accessible, and should be used instead of the deprecated
GtkOptionMenu widget.

Summary: File transfer with Google Talk (libjingle 0.4)

Initial Comment:
Hi!

I've seen that libjingle 0.4 has been released by Google which supports the
file transfer method from the official Google Talk client.
http://code.google.com/apis/talk/libjingle/index.html

Is there any chance GAIM will support this?

Summary: missing info on Faq, about skins

Initial Comment:
The FAQ entry /Can I skin Gaim?/ only points to a page explaining why they'll
not implement it, and that one can tweak some modifications with GTK, but with
no clue on how to do it.

Please put -- preferably both on the FAQ entry itself, and on the Skins page --
a link to a documentation on how to tweak .gtk-rc for Gaim (even if it's just
an empty wiki page :)

Thanks!

If you look at other faq questions, you will see some of this information.
I have no intention of attempting to write a general gtkrc-2.0 howto.

Summary: All text, menus, and icons becoming invisible.

Initial Comment:
I am using Windows XP Professional and I recently switched to the 2.0.0 beta 6
version of GAIM when my problem started happening in the 1.5.0 version (I was
worried about whether I'd lose my settings and log files delaying my switch
to a beta version).

After several minutes of use all the text, menus, and icons become invisible.
If I remember where they are, I can still use them (such as clicking in the
text box on the chat window and typing a message and hitting enter), but I
can't SEE anything other than grey outlines of the background. I can see the
different shades of grey representing the message window, the text box, and the
menu bar (nothing else). Once everything greys out, the only way I can view
the messages I've just sent or received is to open the log file of the
conversation. The sounds still work for sending an receiving messages. I can
temporarily see my text/menus/icons again when I restart GAIM, but after a
minute they're invisible again. Things don't go invisible on the buddy list
and chat window at the same time, although they eventually both go blank and
minimizing and maximizing doesn't fix it. GAIM isn't crashing, it's just
becoming very difficult to use. It doesn't seem to matter whether I'm s
ending/receiving MSN, Yahoo, or AIM messages (or even a combination) when the
error occurs.

I tried rebooting my computer several times as well as restarting GAIM. I
don't know what other information you might need or what else I can try to fix
this on my own. I spent about 4 hours skimming through the bugs list here as
well as the Users Helping Users forum to see if anyone else had posted a
similar problem, but didn't see anything similar.

Hello? I still have this problem. Are there any options I should play
with that might fix things or any other suggestions?

I should be using whichever theme allows GAIM to match my windows theme (I
like the silver one), and I like to use transparency with the variables set
to 200. I don't know what windowblinds is.

Are you using a weird theme or windowblinds or something?
Please post a screenshot of the problem

I installed the newer GTK+ version then rebooted my computer for good
measure. Now my problem has changed slightly. Instead of seeing the grey
background it turns completely black. I still get the tooltips, can access
menus, and type messages if I remember where everything is.

Try using this newer GTK+ version:

[Gaim-bugs] [ gaim-Bugs-1662622 ] window created off screen

Summary: window created off screen

Initial Comment:
This happens with some but not total regularity for me. I have not tested in
beta6.

I have a laptop and an external screen using an extended desktop and Windows
XP. The external display is on the right and taller (in both size and pixels)
These displays are aligned along the bottom edge. So if you draw a big
rectangle around my entire display area, there's a smaller rectangle in the
top-left corner where I don't actually have screen. Windows and the mouse
understand this.

But some of the time when I open a new Window, Gaim creates it aligned to the
top of my really big rectangle - and off my actual screen. (I can recover only
because a little bit of the bottom is visible, so I can make it very wide onto
the other screen, then drag it down, then make it narrower again.)

I searched but found no bugs with window screen in them; my apologies if I
missed it.

(An error many apps have is to create new windows in the non-existant screen if
I've changed my desktop since the app has started up. I actually have no
recollection whether Gaim does this, but I thought I'd mention it for good
measure.)

(My apologies for not testing on Beta6)

I have a similar issue, most likely related but not exactly the same.

I am using beta6.

I have an extended desktop as well, with 3 monitors. All three monitors
are set at 1280x1024, and are lined up horizontally with the far right one
being primary. Every time a conversation window pops up, it is always in
the upper left corner of the leftmost monitor.

Previous versions of gaim remembered the window setting, and restored to
that location when a new IM window pops up. Having it always in the upper
left is highly annoying.

I have a monitor/projector system and this happens to me too.
A work-around: right-click the button for the hidden window on the start
bar, choose Move then hit a keyboard arrow key. The window will now jump
to where the mouse pointer is and you can left click to stamp it down.

I'm having the same issue. Have tried two separate MSN/passport accounts
(neither of which are hotmail accounts -- perhaps that makes a
difference?). Is there a different login server/port/method we should be
using?

Summary: Massive memory leak in gaim 2.0.0 beta5/6

Initial Comment:
I'm seeing a massive memory leak in both gaim 2.0.0 beta5 and 6 (I have not
tested with beta4). If I simply leave gaim running and do not do anything and
watch it through top the resident size grows. I've seen it grow up to 450mb in
a few hours. It eventually causes my system to thrash a lot and I have to
restart gaim.

I'm using Windows XP SP2 and ever since I installed beta6 I have noticed
this leak as well.
It will use up all my available memory and even force Windows to increase
the page file, which is something that never happens.
Eventually Gaim will crash, usually when the computer is idle for some
time.
