I thought I lost my mind first of all but after several tests it doees die. it seems like it is clearing the clipboard cache as soon as you close the window. Givens CB=Clipboard Cache Step 1 Open a window to send a message Step 2 Highlight Word(s) Ctrl-C or right click to copy into CB cache Step 3 Opended CB viewer to make sure contents are in CB cache confirmed they are there. Step 4 Close Gaim Window Step 5 Went back to CB cache contents gone Repeated Steps above with out closing window and all contents pasted to next window. I Hope this is the step process you were wanting to figure out what was going on.
