 Hi, Che and everyone,

Will RailRacer work on a Windows Vista Home Premium system? When I tried
to install the game, I was asked if I wanted to allow this. When I
pressed alt+a to allow the install file to continue, my speech went
silent, and when I pressed enter, my Vista laptop rebooted.
This happened the second time I tried installing it.

Yes, voice chatting definately adds to the experience of racing your
friends online.
If you want to hear an absolutely hilarious clip do a search for leroy
warcraft on you tube, www.youtube.com
Look for the clip that is about 3 minutes long and be sure and listen to
the whole thing, it is a recording of several guys playing Warcraft
together, until one of them gets tired of all the planning and decides it is
time for action.
Absolutely the funniest thing I have ever heard on you tube.

The reason I remapped the nitro key in Rail Racer from the left control
key to z was so it could be used to voice chat as you play without
 interrupting the game.
Frankly, it is hard to hear what others are saying in the heat of
 racing,
but it works well for discussion before and after a race, especially when
you want to place a bet against your opponents in the game. And of
 course,
lets not forget the trash talking. having a screenreader reed Your

hearing it from the person themselves, grin.
My preferred voice chat site is www.VIPConduit.com because their
 software
was written exclusively for the blind and is very solid and easy to setup
 and use.
However, any voice chat site would work, including audio tips and for
 the

I have considered Team Talk as an option that could be included in the

I agree as regards to chess, in fact the only way I've found it possible to
play chess against a computer is set up an actual braille chess set next and
move the pieces, so that I can get the full overview of the board, - I
particularly find tracking movements of bishops and knights more dificult
without a board, but then again, I was only ever a mid range chess player.

Re: [Audyssey] rail racer general problem

2007-06-16 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Che,
You might want to read my article I wrote for issue 49 or 50 in the
Audyssey mag regarding accessible games and Vista.
Bottom line the managed libs for DirectX 10 are incompatible with
DirectX 9.0C. As a result you have to do a side-by-side install of
DirectX 9.0C and DirectX 10 which Vista does allow for compatibility
reasons.
Also .Net framework 3.0 which ships with Vista isn't as backward
compatible as 2.0 was so you also have to install .Net framework 2.0 to
Vistaas well.
As longa the aboveis followed in the proper order of installing .Net
Framework 2 and then DirectX 9.0C in that order prier to installing RR
and Montezuma's Revenge Vista users should be good to go. By he way are
you still using .Net Framework 1.1? If so I highly suggest updating RR
to .Net Framework 2.
Montezuma's Revenge encountered the exact same issues Rail Racer did,
but fortunately since I had a Vista system on hand I was able to test
and discover what was needed to get Monty, Rail Racer, and other games
ready for Vista.
Cheers.

Your Vista issue doesn't appear to be related to Rail Racer, but
something related to confirming adman approval. You might want to arrow

as administrator. That should allow you to install without having to
mess with the admen pop up.
Failing that you can go in to configure and turn off Vista's security

 Hi Brian,
This list is open to any game that is accessible or can be made
accessible to blind and low vision gamers weather it is board games, pen
and paper games, video games, audio games etc... Since you mentioned you
are willing to offer ascii text copies of your pen and paper game that
would fall in the category of reasonable accessibility for blind
computer users who use screen reading software.
As for the game itself it sounds interesting, and I am sure those of us
on the list who are in to pen and paper RPG games would be interested in

Re: [Audyssey] looking for playtesters or feedback for pen paper RPG

2007-06-16 Thread Dark
Indeed, though on the occasions I've played with sited gm's, they tend to
prefer all the character related info to be in a format which they can
read, -- such as a text or word file, which is why I use a laptop for
AdD (and I'm now a far better typist than braillest anyway).

 Hi Damien,
Yes, traditional pen and paper RPG games are very accessible to a blind
gamer provided the blind player has an accessible copy of the game
rules, notes, story, etc in a format he or she can access like braille,
notepad text file, Word format, etc...
You can get an accessible dice rolling program like GMA dice to do the
rolls, or you can have a fellow game player roll the dice for you.
As for writing things down you are going to want to keep some sort of
accessible log for your character with important information such as:
amount of money you are carrying, current health, experience points,
skill levels reached, and so on. In some pen and paper games there can
be quite allot of info generated.
The ideal solution is to just keep a log in a notepad text file, but you
can use a braille writer, braille N Speak, whatever you wish to keep
 track of your character stats.

Quite easily actually Damian, all that's required is a computer with
 screen
reader to write down character info (I assume you have one of those
 smile!),
and some dice (or the gma dice program), and a Gm and group of people
playing the game, I'm actually slightly surprised sometimes that more
blinks, - to ruthlessly steel Che's term, don't do a lot of rping,
 sinse
it's one of the most fun and easily accessible things I know, -
 provided
of course you can get your hands on the rules.

As everyone on here will know, I've just restarted playing AdD after a
 long
 absense.

I hink the world and setting sound sfun Brian, and I wouldn't mind a look
 at
the rules assuming you've got a text copy knocking around, though despite
 my
DD playing I'm stil rather inexperienced at rpging, but I'll try and
 help
 if I can.

Btw, I'm afraid I'm not here next week, so there might be a delay if
 you'd

If you think that track is bad, wait until you see some of the

The track named hanging force has a jump and a force field right

What kind of times are you guys pulling on the first track btw?
I'm curious who has the fastest times so far. Fortunately in the

Dark and Christopher already answered this, but I'll just chime in and
say that all one should need is the game book, some way to take notes
about characters, some way to get a random number between 1 and 20, and
the means to do some addition, subtraction and simple division.

If it would be of any use to anybody I could write up a text-only

[Audyssey] a jd review

2007-06-16 Thread Andy Smith
Hi:
I don't know why I am doing this but:

In L-work's newest title, which was launched December 12, 2006, was
called Judgment Day. It is quite good; however, you wouldn't kow that
from the demo, I was not sure if I should buy it actually. But once
you unlock the thing, wowww! You've got a whole world of fun right at
your fingertips!

bonus games

perhaps the most exciting feature is the bonus games feature. There
are 4 bonus games, plus a little extra bonus game that doesn't do much
of anything but give you a trophy.

rocket rage

It's you up against mad rockets dropping faster. Or, itt seems that
way, later on. At first, your machine gun goes so fast it's a mystery
how you can get only one bullet out at a time. But, my strategy is to
just hold down ctrl the entire game and move from side to side. But,
the catch is that your gun fires slower. And slower. And slower.
Until... 10 rockets land, oh no!

Parachute jump, this one's fun! You're falling out of this parachute
with bags falling to make you fall faster. You've got to avoid these
rocket-enemies, and at the same time, get the bags. They've got to be
exactly in the center; not even a centimeter off.

Weapon Search, this one, to me, is kind of similar to super egg hunt
in a number of ways. You move up and down, among the rows and columns,
trying to collect as many weapons as possible within 3 minutes. You've
got to make it to the door before it is known there is an intruder.

number guess:

In this game, you've got a menu (if that's the propper word), with
numbers 1 to 12. You have to guess the number the computer is thinking
of; but, you only get 4 tries per number.

The trophys:

There are 40 of them all combine; even counting bonus games, and
regular game trophys, and also extra trophys. In Judgment Day, you do
certain things to obtain them. For example, to start, once you get
your unlock code you will want to beat it, right? On easy, right?
Well, if you beat it on easy normal hard or even unlockable ultra, you
get trophys. However, in the demo there is no way to tell how good
this is...

L-works theater

It's movies! Yeah, and they're being mailed right in your computer!

In this theater there are little unlockable pieces of audio; but
please keep in mind there is no video to watch. They're quite funny,
once you've got the propper amount of trophys!

submitting scores:

You can show your fellow gamers how good you are! Get number one and...

And finally, the regular game!

In the regular game, you got to shoot down rockets, copters, planes,
and disablers. From personal experience, planes are the hardest to
kill. They love to move around; keep your machine gun, rockets or
nukes on them and you'll stay away from harm.

closing thoughts:

While the keyboard interface is good, the mouse input option is much
better; it gives me the sensation that I am actually shooting stuff
down, rather than pushing buttons.
I also like the trophy system; I became addicted, staying up to 3 am
on weekends to play it to get the trophys. I like the unlockable
system; with the movies, bonus games, and other content; it's just
awesome!

[Audyssey] Baseball Mogul

2007-06-16 Thread Zachary Kline
Hiya,
I just stumbled on this game while I was in a fresh Baseball kinda mood
from listening to the OSU Beavers squeak by good old UC Fullerton this evening.
It seems quite accessible, albeit a little complex and managerial. What I'd
really like is a game with the old Trippleplay-style play-by-play
announcements, which I can fully play without the need for a playstation
controller. Heh. Anyway, here's a link for you guys. Anybody with a more
strategic or patient mind willing to check it out? Has somebody already?
http://www.sportsmogul.com/baseball2k5/free.htm
Thanks,
Zack.

Re: [Audyssey] looking for playtesters or feedback for pen paper RPG

2007-06-16 Thread Lora
Pen and paper gaming is a misnomer. Originally, role-playing games were
released exclusively as paper books. When you designed a character for the
game, you wrote down all your choices on a piece of paper on what's called a
character sheet. When I began playing such games 25 years ago, I simply
made my choices and had a friend write them down for me.

Nowadays, many game companies are releasing their rules in electronic
formats that we can use. As for character sheets, you can now complete them
in Word or Notepad or some other similar application, and print them out if
your gamemaster wants a hard copy. There are also Web sites for specific
game systems where you can fill out an HTML form and then print out the
nicely formatted character sheet that will make your GM happy.

Thus, pen and paper might also be referred to as keyboard and disk, or
something similar.

Role-playing games are one type of game where we really aren't at a
disadvantage at all when we play.

RPG

Depending on how the game is done you could do this in notepad.
I have to do this with messages in sod so I remember sequences.
paus and alt tab.
If its physically writing is it pen write or command entering as in an text
adventure.

oh, so we would be able to play this game then? how does it work? you
mean you actually have to write things down for it? so how would that
work if we're blind?

damien

  Hi Brian,
This list is open to any game that is accessible or can be made
accessible to blind and low vision gamers weather it is board games,
pen and paper games, video games, audio games etc... Since you
mentioned you are willing to offer ascii text copies of your pen and
paper game that would fall in the category of reasonable
accessibility for blind computer users who use screen reading software.
As for the game itself it sounds interesting, and I am sure those of
us on the list who are in to pen and paper RPG games would be
interested in helping out. So ask away.
