Re: [Audyssey] SDM Update
ryan any chance we can see the game in its semi easy state just for cicks? I will understand if you'd rather want to leave it but I'd like to have at least a try if not an audio preview of the game so far with all my sfx in. Thanks to a project for x-sight done I had already got a load of stuff sitting there. Thanks to your project I actually have a few more generic guard things in my self made library. I can easily put more. At 01:28 p.m. 1/04/2008, you wrote: Hi, Well, thanks alot for your feedback, especially Dark pointing me to the fabulous reaction time article. I will probably be going diff levels for this easy medium hard insane impossible. I just added the sounds, with 10 random guard sounds (i had to reset all of the current positions of each sounds to 0..grr) and the bombs and what not, stairs, power up, landing/jumping etc., and it sounds pretty cool. With the other timers added in, I think it won't be that easy... thanks again shaun for the sounds! I also went through and fixed tons of bugs, and it's pretty stable right now. -Ryan --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] You can make changes or update your subscription via the web, at http://audyssey.org/mailman/listinfo/gamers_audyssey.org. Re: [Audyssey] Claudiogames starts!
Hi Claudio, first off, the site where you can find the Java SDK and runtime environment is: http://www.java.sun.com Secondly, yes, Java functions very well in client server situations, and is known for applets on webpages, but it functions equally well in a stand-alone application situation. Just to add my own personal notes here, also; I'd mentioned a few weeks ago here about the so-called complexity of the javax.media.j3d package, which is Sun's 3d graphics and sound package. Well, since that time, I've been able to cull that ridiculously over-blown code for the so called simple audio example to something that is not only very manageable, but is also very much an elegant and cleanly coded solution for 3d audio. As a matter of fact, in my own personal opinion, having looked at some simple code for the JOAL 3d audio library,I prefer javax.media.j3d. I believe that once I get this bit of code polished a bit more, that it will be a very good solution and a very neat and easily understood bit of coding. I think the problem, as I'd suspected, really came from a bit of an over zealous dev who was trying to show too many concepts all at once in one example and calling it simple. lol! Anyway, I'll be posting this to the list probably sometime this week, so the practical up-shot of my post is this; I still think Java is a particularly good language to use for games for the visually impaired. Take that for what its worth and have the loveliest of evenings!… Smiles, Cara :) On Mar 31, 2008, at 10:54 PM, Claudio Zeni wrote: Hello Thomas! There are some problems with the Java-language. Re: [Audyssey] Claudiogames starts!
Hi Claudio, As for problem 1 that is an easy one to solve. Go to http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp and download Java JDK 1.6 Update 5. That is the official commandline tools for Java from Sun. Once you download it write me off list at [EMAIL PROTECTED] or on the developers list at [EMAIL PROTECTED] and I will give you detailed instructions as how to get the JDK setup, installed, and get the environment variables set so the command prompt in XP will allow you to issue commands to the JDK directly. As for your second problem Java can do much more than make Java servlets and as service side applications. In this instance you need to keep in mind the time and age of that Java book. At the time that book was written Java servlets and cross platform server side applications were in high demand. The book was attempting to target that group of developers. However, over the passed 5 years since that book was written Java has become much more popular and has been used to write a very large range of software titles including games, word processors, spreadsheet applications, front ends for databases, email clients, web browsers, etc. The point here is don't cut the language short just because the code examples in that book specifically target more web site and servlet type applications. The idea is that the book I emailed you off list is an introduction to Java. You need to learn to walk before you can run. You need to know the core language before you can write guess the number or another such simple game. Claudio Zeni wrote: Hello Thomas! There are some problems with the Java-language. [Audyssey] my Nintendo article
Hi all, If there are any, I'd love to hear stories of, like what I had in my article, where you put on Nintendo games and you had no idea what they were? Like my example with the game with the jewels and the blocks, and there was also a game called Ninja 3 where the one button sounded maybe like a sword and the other button was to jump, but to me it always sounded so funny! Also, is it just me, but when you've finished writing an article, you think wow, this article is so long but when it comes in the mag, you just read it and then think wow, this article is actually not too long. It's like writer's nerves or something, or when a person writes an article, the thought a person puts in makes the article seem long? Re: [Audyssey] my Nintendo article
Hi Ari.Hi Arri. My experiences with games were rather different, but my experiences with the artical were exactly the same. i thought over 2100 words was far too much rambling (I know i have a tendency to ramble), and reading it I worry that some of my thoughts came out as too abrupt and could've done with expantion. If it's any help though, this is just what I've thought writing my academic work as well, yeee gods that was a complicated point, did it really only take 300 words to write that? In fact my tutor has said that the better my work is, the more expanded each point is, and at my absolute worst I write as if I'm putting down a series of almost unrelated bullit points. I was also worried about my style with Audeasy, sinse I was trying to fuse writing academically and seriously with some surreal humer, hope this worked. I really enjoyed your own artical ari on my part, it was great to here about someone else's experiences with games. Beware the Grue! Re: [Audyssey] SDM Update
Hi Aiden. Personally, I have no problem with zip files at all, and often if I'm just trying a short game I like a zip file sinse I don't have to muck about with the add/remove programs if I decide I don't want to keep it. If you really want a program group with instructions, just create shortcuts and make a folder yourself I've already done this myself for several games and imho it's not too much of a problem. just my personal thoughts there, feel free to disagree. [Audyssey] side scroler game
Hi. oh man. that game was good. The music was good to. There was one bug I found. You really need to have the sounds finnishing playing on the guards before they shoot. I notice that if you shoot while they are still tornting that this may carry on to the next step if there is another guard there. The step sound does not have enough echo in it it sounds semi distorted but you don't notice it unless you play it outside the game. The gun sound does not sound like a gun. I am sure there are other gun sounds around you could get. If you get shot, or fall into lava you really should hear you die. There needs to be some sort of ambiance in the game. lava should sound like lava. Guards guns should sound like guns when shot. ANd dieing and ingery sounds yeah. I know its still just a basic game but yeah its looking good. --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] You can make changes or update your subscription via the web, at http://audyssey.org/mailman/listinfo/gamers_audyssey.org.
