For all bowling fans like me, thanks for a fantastic audio teaser! Sounds are what you would expect both from a typical Blindfold game and an actual game of Ten Pin Bowling. I seriously wish you would become an informed user and study the technical reasons why Microsoft chose to discontinue certain technologies rather than just blaming them for it. Then again, I doubt it would matter in your case. I don't want to be rude or insulting, but it seems that you hate Microsoft, have some desire to blame them for everything they do, and weather they do something for a good reason or a bad reason they are always, always, always the bad guy. I don't know what your personal bias is, but I find your comments like Microsoft should be shot really gets up my nose, because it is assuming you know more than them about the technical ins and outs of their technology. This isn't about ethics or philosophy but an area of expertise you apparently know little about beyond a basic end user's knowledge. On 9/7/14, dark d...@xgam.org wrote: does anyone know what E-mail address I can contact Liam on? While it is Liam's choice to discontinue support for the software (silly microsoft should be shot for causing this much trouble), I completely disagree with his point that offering the games for free is bad for previous customers. Indeed I'd much rather the games that I enjoyed and continue to enjoy could be appreciated by people in the future than that they vanish forever, and it is not as if this is the first time a developer has made such a decision, for example I originally bought Teraformers, trek 2000 and Tarzan Jr, and am happy people can still play the games. I would very much like to contact Liam and let him know my feelings on this issue sinse while discontinuing the games is up to him, I think he is making some incorrect assumptions about the feelings of customers, and it is a shame if people weren't able to play the games in the future just because Liam was afraid previous customers would take umbridge. all the best, Dark. --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to gamers-unsubscr...@audyssey.org. [Audyssey] Fwd: LWorks An update including questions and answers regarding Super Liam and Judgment day
Hope this is ok to post here. Christopher Hallsworth Student at the Hadley School for the Blind www.hadley.edu Forwarded Message An update including questions and answers regarding Super Liam and Judgment day http://l-works.net?subaction=showfullid=1410066926archive= Since the announcement that I will no longer be selling Super Liam or Judgment day, I have received a lot of email asking what exactly is going on. My answers to some common questions are below. 1. What's the deal here? Super Liam and Judgment Day were written 10 and 8 years ago respectively. The technology that they run on is both outdated and difficult to program for. Both games were written with visual basic 6 which is now considered Legacy software. Being able to both support and make updates to these games is difficult at best. 2. Why don't you just set them free? One of my major decisions in not making these games abandonware is there are customers who have spent their hard earned money in purchasing these games, and I feel making the game freeware is a huge slap in the face to them. I don't want to punish people for helping to support game development. 3. Now that the games are no longer being sold will you give me a free key? No. Please see answer two above. 4. What will happen to these games? As I know there are people who still want to purchase and play them I have a couple of options. My first option is to try and sell them again. This opens a few challenges as the system that is being used for computer ID's is a pain. Having to make a customer re-register every time he or she changes computers is ridiculous. I also work a full-time job so creating keys when machines change can be time-consuming. My second option is to release them as freeware. Answer two explains why I really don't want to do this. I realize that this is frustrating for many people, so I would love to hear from you. Do you feel that if you're a previous customer it is fair that future generations be able to play for free? Christopher Hallsworth Student at the Hadley School for the Blind www.hadley.edu Forwarded Message I have received a lot of mail from people who have been in support of me making the games freeware. So This is the process I will start this week. I can't give a time table, as I do have a lot going on. but look for free versions of Super Liam and Judgment Day soon. I feel that I was doing my best to support you when I bought the games, and if selling them/generating keys has gotten to the point where it’s not worth it, that makes perfect sense to me. It’s a tricky question: on one hand, you put a lot of work into the games, so if people are still willing to buy them, that’s money in your pocket. On the other hand, it sounds like making them freeware could make your life a lot easier, so it’s ultimately up to you what you decide. I’m just saying that as someone who purchased them, I wouldn’t be in the least bit upset to see them go free now. I hope that helps and makes at least a little sense. Thanks for the agreement! Very shoddy practice in my opinion. At least Justin was decent enough to offer all his games including the unlocker program he uses to generate the hardware specific codes. Hi Lori, While I do agree Liam needs to get his act together about key replacements and providing better support for his games I disagree about him giving them away for free. He put the time and work into creating them so deserves some compensation for that, and as a fellow developer can understand why he would be reluctant to just give them away. That said, I don't really understand why he isn't providing better support for them. Yes, I know he does have a real daytime job which would drastically effect how much free time he has to devoting to supporting his products. Nobody can fault him for that, but I do think he could probably manage his free time better. I realize it is easy for me to say this, but I would think he could devote at least a little time to L-Works support rather than doing something else with his free time be it watching TV,playing games, or whatever it is he does in his free time. It makes me question weather he really cares or not. Perhaps, though, I am being too harsh. I just don't know enough about why he isn't offering better support to accurately make a fair judgement about the situation. Still, even if he himself doesn't have free time he should be able to find a trusted friend, relative, or appoint a fellow game developer to redistribute product keys and help manage the business end of things of L-Works rather than let things hang. Again, easy for me to say, but it would potentially be an option to offer his customers something rather than seemingly ignoring them. Last of all he could always write or higher someone to write some automated system which would ideally be the best way to handle support. The automated system would be available 24/7 and only require minimal oversight. That way he would be free to do whatever he needed to do while having an automated system overseeing the business end of the business. The point being here is I know Liam could probably do something, and for that reason I don't believe just giving his games away for free is the right answer. However, he does need to do something as it feels like a lot of people have been left in the lurch by his lack of attention to L-Works the last few years. On 8/30/14, loriduncan lori_dunca...@hotmail.com wrote: Hi Thomas, he really does need to get his act together with l-works. [Audyssey] Classic games under Windows 8/8.1?
Hi all Let me clarify what I'm asking here. Do the good old Classic games from companies like LWorks and Playing In The Dark work under Windows 8/8.1? What about those from Draconis? These are games I'm talking about and not ones released recently. I know Shades of Doom 2.0 which is in public beta currently works just fine under my 8.1 installation at least. Any comments welcome. Re: [Audyssey] What has happened to Liam?
Agreed. I was asked to re-purchase Super Egg Hunt Plus as a gift for a friend as they lost the key. Fortunately I still had the key tooked away somewhere so not a penny was wasted and was able to give it them again. Strangely this game does use an automated system but not his other titles. This is nonsense to me because of inconsistencies. I am still unable to get any of my games which I paid for, registered. I personally feel he really needs to set up an automated key replacement service like some other sites have, if he’s too busy or doesn’t want the hard task of manually replacing lost keys. His games are of such good quality, I’m sad I’m unable to play them. I realise he has a life outside of game developement, like we all do, and I hope his real life is going well too. [Audyssey] Moving email address
Hi all I am going to move email addresses for this list, I am happy with Gmail but going to use that for only personal mail and maybe one or two lists, the rest will be transferred to Apple's own iCloud Mail account, it's just brilliant and finally I can receive my own messages from lists rather than receive a copy which is the case with Gmail if set up correctly. Also with iCloud Mail my mail will be truly organized as whatever I do on the PC will also be reflected on my mac and all my iOS devices where iCloud Mail is set up. Again I'm quite happy with Gmail but want to use it for the above only and use iCloud Mail for the rest. So moderators if you see unsubscription/subscription notifications from me that is why.
