Re: [Audyssey] An audiogame programming mailinglist?

2008-01-09 Thread Raul A. Gallegos
Hi. I don't mind doing this with audyssey.org however the current web
host configuration only allows one Mailman list. If I set up another
list, it will have to be done using dadamail. This is not a problem, but
it does not work quite the same as what we have. For most users this is
transparent and as long as they can send and receive e-mail to the list,
who cares how it works in the background. In fact, the Audyssey magazine
list is set up using dadamail which Ron uses to send out the mag.
Speaking of which, I'm in the processing of upgrading the dadamail so
it's currently down.

What I'm saying is that there is already stuff out there, but if people
want to put it on audyssey, I don't mind either way.

That's the rub: I haven't seen much news on that site for quite a while.
Furthermore, I thought about an alround mailinglist, not only meant for
newbies. I do not say that this list is useless, though. Maybe it can be
reincarnated again.

Hi All,

After all this (offtopic) talking about programming audiogames, I thought it
might be a good idea to have a special audiogames programming mailinglist.
There, people could ask questions such as:
- How do I write a good menu system?
- How do I write my own sound encryption scheme?
- What maths do I need to accomplish a certain thing?
- Which language is best for me, C# or VB.NET?
Of course, the listtraffic will not raise as high as that of this list, so
in terms of bandwidth it's relatively easy to host. Apparently, I'm willing
to host such a list myself, but it'd be great if it could be done under the
Audyssey label.
What are your thoughts on this?

Cheers!

I think hosting is not really a problem. It's more the question if we should
do this on Audyssey.org, or on a seperate system that has nothing to do with
Audyssey. Of course it would be cool to have all audiogame-related lists
under the name of Audyssey, but I don't know how the moderators/owners of

Hi,
There were two lists created by agdev called
agdev-newbies
and the
agdev-discuss
lists, but noone has posted on those lists for ages. I have a new
developers list hosted on the Usagames.us server, but it will be a week
or so before everything is stable enough to begin taking subscriptions.

Hi Brandon,
The accessible game developers list is already in the works. The main
thing I have to wait for is for the usagames.us domain to propigate and
reflect the new name servers of the web host which I am still working on.

Re: [Audyssey] An audiogame programming mailinglist?

2008-01-08 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi,
Actually, USA Games has something like this in the works. I hadn't
intended to announce this until the web site goes live, but since the
topic came up I will tell you a little about what USA Games is doing.
As you may or may not know I am currently moving all of USA Games stuff
to a new web hosting company with allot more features and services, and
I have taken the old site down while I get the new web site up and
running. One of the new features and services that USA Games will be
offering is a developer center that will have a developers mailing list
for game programming, books, articles, and links, all dealing with
getting started with writing accessible games.
Two years ago the accessible game developers tried to do something similar
www.agdev.org
with a wiki and mailing list for game developers, but it failed to
attract much comunity support. The last entry on the site is 2005, and
the information is already becoming out of date. Not only that there
isn't anyone there to maintain it any more.
So with that in mind I am going to be doing something similar on the USA
Games site, but hopefully with a little more comunity support.
