Re: [Audyssey] I'm giving phil the go ahead to create a game with harry as character
I sure hope that's not the case. I'd hate to see star trek final conflict go away. Also if some copyright owner wants to play hardball does that mean we'd all have to delete the games from our computers? In the end it is up to the individual how much risk he/she wishes to take when producing unauthorized fanware. As for myself it is true I am making Star Trek, Star Wars, and other games based on copyrighted universes, but I also have a policy that anything with a copyright must be given away as freeware, has no technical support besides the mailing lists, and if given a cease and desist letter from a lawyer the stuff will vanish from the net never to be seen again. However, I mainly write my games for fun, and as such I have no troubles writing them for myself and giving them away. if some copyright owner wants to play hardball I'll simply cease producing that content for public consumption. ___ Gamers mailing list .. [Audyssey] I'm giving phil the go ahead to create a game with harry as character
NB: This email and its contents are subject to our email legal notice which can be viewed at http://www.sars.gov.za/Email_Disclaimer.pdf Phil, my friend, go ahead and create a game with harry and friends as characters if you wish. You don't need to be afraid of getting into hot water for copyright infringement. Let me proof my statement. Someone from south Africa went and wrote his own harry potter books using some content of jk rowling. My colleague told me that harry wade his way through a rose garden with a sword. The rowling books proofs this wrong as harry only used a sword to kill the basilisk. My sister-in-law told me that her friend's kid watched harry potter movies and that harry's friends's names is the names of demons. The harry potter books from jk rowling once again proofs this wrong as the weesley children, Neville longbottom and hermien was harry's only friends. So this is why I feel so strong about it. If its too much work for you to change the character to harry and his friends, then I understand if you prefer not to do it but if you are only afraid to get into hot water, my friend, there's no reason to be afraid. You just tell the person that approaches you, that someone from south africa commited bigger copyright infringement than you for he wrote his own harry potter story. If you prefer not to use harry and friends as characters because of the fact that he is after voldemort's horcruxes, I do understand it, but the point that I just wanted to make is: Phil doesn't need to be afraid of getting into hot water because an unknown dood from south africa has commited bigger copy right infringement than phil. If I find out who did that, I will report him to Joanne rowling. ___ Gamers mailing list ..
