2007-09-12 Thread Ken the Crazy
That's true--the game right now is totally mono, and while keeping the feel
of the original is fine, it should definitely be expanded somewhat--unless
you're trying to keep the feel of how frustrated you were when you played
the sighted peoples' version!

Hmmm, having a brief check of a mario Faq, it does actually seem that all
the enemies used in Dsg's mario game were from the original, - accept I
don't believe the vertically moving coopers were officially called Para
troupers until mario 3.

Obviously an audio rendition of a graphical game will need more Sfx, but
personally I think that's fine so long as the effects are in keeping with
the atmosphere of things, Eg, it would be slightly odd to suddenly start
including high quality sfx with all the Nes stuff in audio Mario, though a
few modulated bleeps or Nes effects from other games might be a good thing.

I'm honestly not real sure how you could make a good super mario game
 while
retaining the classic feel. I guess you could have the sound when the
 enemy
pops up pan across and jump on it when its close to center screen, but
 even
so that sound they use to show tha you're near an enemy is another sound
used for when other things die, spacifically the coopas. And most of the
enemies in their version of mario are from other mario games as I recall,
 in
thefirst mario I believe there were only coopas, goombaws, cliffs and the
things in the water level. But shrug, I guess I'll give them props for
 trying.

It's nice to here the end of level theme and the old grab item jingle in the

 Hi,
Yeah, sticking to the original sound wize is basically impossible. Not
if you want the game to be accessible. I faced a similar choice with
Monty. Sure I could have put in arcade effects, but then it wouldn't
have been as accesible or as ritch as it is.

Really? Hmm, that's interesting. I didn't think they used very many in the
very first Mario game. Then again my brother could only make it to level 3
though before he died. I don't believe we ever got past that point, so
you're probably right.

2007-09-12 Thread Dark
there's a really good, and highly comprehensive, faq about all the
characters in the mario universe, from all the games. Just check Gamefaqs
under any mario title and you should find it.

the number of games Mario has been in is a bit rediculous, so it's
about time that he had his first audio game.

Re: [Audyssey] Mario, and my only complaint

2007-09-12 Thread Ron Schamerhorn
I'd quite like to see work on Mario continue, remember watching my nephews
play it and have loads of fun! Still have to work on figuring this one out
though. No real idea what I'm doing yet. *grin*

[Audyssey] Mario, and my only complaint

2007-09-11 Thread Ken the Crazy
I love the new Mario game. So far, I've gotten to level 2--almost to the end,
but by the time I get there I get excited and hit too many buttons too fast.
My only complaint is that right arrow moves forward, but also ends the game if
you make no menu selection, so if you're playing and you die, and you hit right
arrow before you realize you're dead, the game quits. That's my only complaint
though. If anyone wants, I can do a speed run of the first couple of levels.

Re: [Audyssey] Mario, and my only complaint

2007-09-11 Thread Kelly Sapergia
Hi,
I tried the game yesterday but didn't get very far. I think I'm
pressing the right arrow key too much or something because I died
immediately after starting level 1. However, even when I was jumping
while not moving I died. Guess I need more practice.
Thanks.

Yours Sincerely,
Kelly John Sapergia

Hey

Ideally I agree, however to play devil's advocate, Nintendo didn't have
panning sounds in the Mario classic.

Well in case the developer is on this list, I think panning would be a much
easier approach. trying to memorize how many times you took steps and
pressed arrow keys isn't practical.
