Re: [Audyssey] The game of Life

2013-06-16 Thread Jim Kitchen

Hi Ken,

One nice thing about the Microsoft Visual Studio 6 tool is that it looked at my
game of Life, figured out it's dependencies, found them and bundled them for
distribution. So then the setup.exe install file knows where to properly
install those files.

May I ask, does the IIS tool do the same for the below files like my winkit.zip
install does?

Hi Phil,

The Microsoft Visual Studio version 6 program that creates the setup.exe
install thing is not the most screen reader friendly thing to use, so I
have not up dated the winkit.zip file since I put it up on my site back in
May of 2003.

The winlife5.exe is the up date to the game menu program and the game of
Life. And yes, by default it will over write the older files.

Re: [Audyssey] The game of Life

2013-06-11 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Jim,

Correct. When Winzip Self-Extractor comes up it prompts the user to
enter a new directory where he/she wants to extract the files, or they
can accept the default location which is c:\Program Files\Kitchensinc.
However, as Windows Vista, Windos 7, and Windows 8 have zip/unzip
built into Windows Explorer the need to use a self-extracting zip file
is becoming less necessary.

Honestly, I kind of like the idea of just being able to unzip your
games wherever I want them. For example, right now I install all of
your games to c:\Users\Thomas\Kitchensinc because that doesn't require
me to turn off User Account Control, and they work fine out of my
Users directory.

manually changing directories means uninstalling and then

Hi,

Well, as for the VB 6 installation all Jim needs to do is redistribute
the Microsoft VB 6 installer as it was provided from MS for that
purpose. The only thing it doesn't contain though is dx7vb.dll and
dx8vb.dll as they shipped with DirectX when the Microsoft VB 6
installer was packaged so might need a separate installer for them.

Cheers!

Re: [Audyssey] The game of Life

2013-06-10 Thread Josh Kennedy
hi jim. I installed the new game of life without installing the winkit
first. it did not want to by default put its files in documents but I
made it do so with the browse button. the games work fine now. somehow I
think installing swamp and running the .bat file made your games work
now also.

Hi,

I have put a new file up on my site.

Version 4 of the game of Life and the game menu program should now write
their files to your documents\Kitchensinc folder. And the game of Life
now creates a log file lifelog.txt.

The winlife4.exe file can be found on my free windows sapi5 text to
speech games page.

Hi Josh,

Cool, thanks for letting me know that my game of Life runs for you. But I have
not tried to change where the games get installed, only where they write their
files. If you check you should now see in your documents\kitchensinc folder
files such as life.cfg, lifelog.txt, gamemenu.txt etc.
