Re: [Audyssey] online gaming
Hi ibrihim. i'd like to read that, I enjoy distopia, however my point wasn't that everyone playing online games was! a good thing, only that it was not a universally bad thing and could have bennificial consequences just almost everything else in society, depending upon what people did with it. Yes, some people do get addicted to games and kill themselves, but some people die of eating too much junk food, drinking too much booze etc. We're Back to my favourite philosopher on pleasure, epicurus, everything in moderation! :D. Firstly, in terms of social games, I've actually met people for whome they are a positive thing. I know a girl for instance who has some psychological problems, particularly around confidence, yet through setting up her own website and discussing games, she met a lot of people and found a group, which resulted not only in her finding many frends, but also finding a husband and actually moving to another country! also, the artical seemed uniquely focused on social gaming not experiencial gaming. i for instance spend a large amount of time gaming, but I also spend a large amount of time reading, and you never hear anyone cryticising books. You can't argue that a game like king of dragon pass or the recently released smugglers 5 is a low brain activity simply by virture of it's text and atmosphere, indeed I've learnt myself many usefull techniques, web navigation with a screen reader, resource calculation, mental mapping etc which I likely would've have learnt if I hadn't bee exploring a game's world. I do fully agree with the artical that there can be occasions when too much gaming is used as a cover for other problems or a coping mechanism, but I would see this in a vastly different light myself. A person already! suffering depression can use online games as a way of moderating feelings, sinse the ceribral processes required in several games, especially puzzles, stratogy and resource management are utterly emotionless, and thus can find a change of focus from the person's own inner state to something else until things change, and given that other responses to such feelings could be getting falling down drunk or taking drugs, then it's not really too bad. I actually agreed with the chap who says if a person has a problem with gaming, it's not the gaming that is the problem. As regards addiction, well it does always strike me a little odd that people focus on gaming addiction and admit addiction to many other hobbies. I would considder myself far! more addicted to reading than to games, sinse while I can live without access to games, I would feel something is severely wrong without a book to read. I will agree though that the gambling industry trying to interest gamers is a little worrying, though even there I do think we're under estimating people's ability to make their own choices. Hi all an interesting article stream link http://www.radionz.co.nz/national/programmes/insight/audio/2541608/insight-for-16-december-2012-online-video-gaming.asx vorbis link http://podcast.radionz.co.nz/inst/inst-20121216-0812-insight_for_16_december_2012_-_online_video_gaming-00.ogg mp3 link http://podcast.radionz.co.nz/inst/inst-20121216-0812-insight_for_16_december_2012_-_online_video_gaming-048.mp3 This talks on how adicting gaming is getting. This is from arcade right through to online gambling gaming. My view is its all preasure. Its why I don't start facebook or twitter, I know I'd get addicted. And to be honest over 150% of my entire life right now is devoted to the computer as an audio/ communication platform. Am I addicted? One of the things that has saved me mostly has been the fact during most weeks most people are away at various jobs and such and I need for my own personal safety leave the headphones off. I have never played all night, though my brother had for a stint and had it quite bad during his teen years. He eventually got rsi and that effectively ended it. I am not sure that controling how you game by taking equipment away or whatever is going to help. There is all this gaming sports on youtube and other social things, still its interesting. Saying all that I have never been able to wear headsets all day especially in the summer, sertainly not all the time. The only possible danger is smuglers. My real life is boring as heck, though now I have advanced to as powerfull ship as I can for my class its tailed off some. And at any rate summer is coming. thoughts people? --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to gamers-unsubscr...@audyssey.org. Re: [Audyssey] online gaming
Hi Michael, If there isn't any games going on you will have to ask some of your RR friends to join you online for a game. You can easily initiate a new game and ask others to join. As for chatting it is a chat room where everyone types messages to everyone else and the new chat message is read aloud by Sapi. A chat session might look like this. Bill: Anyone up for a game? Joe: Yeah, sounds good. Michael: Sure sounds like fun. Bill: Ok, let's race on Daytona. Joe: Ok. Michael: That's alright with me. Bill: has started a new race on Daytona. michael barnes wrote: when you play railracer and top speed online how does the chat work do you text what you are saying or do you talk into a mic if how do you set up a game room with top speed i want to play against some of my friends and anyone else who want to race and how can i play against someone online on railracer i go to the online option but it say that something about it can't find any games going on --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to gamers-unsubscr...@audyssey.org. Hi Michael, For Rail Racer, it is best to ask folks on the rail racer list if they are up for a race at a particular time, or let them know you will be there waiting on folks at a certain time, also best to state your time in eastern so everyone is on the same page. We're gonna be doing a rail racer tournament in a couple weeks, and the online racing will really heat up then.
