Hi Darren.
As I recall you need to walk into the refignery building and use the furnice
in there, set the furnice for what youwant, transfer the metal in and then
light or activate it.
I'm afraid I don't recalll the command exactly, but one great thing about
wayfare1444 is that you can always get the correct commands of any object or
building in game. I think it was "commands" or maybe "info" to get the
details of whatever your in, which should let you interact with it, sorry
this is a little none specific it's been a couple of years sinse I last
played wayfare and I can't recall all the commands, though i do remember
finding commands was never a problem in game.
I'll also note that you can use some quite complex item operators which
might make life easier, for example you can transfer all inert metal into
hopper or get all solar krethesan out of a container if you want, which can
be very handy later on.
