Re: [Audyssey] Side-scrollers was MOTA Beta 2.

2008-03-25 Thread Valiant8086 on laptop
Hi.
Just like in other games, randomness can indeed be implimented in side
scrolers. In mario rothers, for example, the very first step you take puts
you within 4 steps of one of those, what are they called, 4 more stepps and
jump you got him. It doesn't have to be like that though, it's doable to put
them where ever. Thomas's side scroler is likely to have the levels the
same, why would the building or geological aspect change, but the
characters, things like that, will certainly be able to be in diferent
places each time the game is played.

Re: [Audyssey] making a game together

2008-03-25 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Claudio,
What you are thinking of is a really nice idea, but is pretty
impractical under the current circumstances. There is quite a lot of
logistics involved in building a development team that would have to be
worked out. Here is just a few of the biggies I see would be a problem.
First, all developers would have to be skilled in the same programming
language. From what I have seen there is developers using VB 6, VB
2005/2008, Java, C#, C++, Python, etc. Basically programming languages
with little to no similarity to each other in order to a forge a common
development platform. The C# and Java developers could probably work
together since both languages are similar, but really if you don't know
the underlying packages and dll files for that language coding
similarities won't mean much.
Second, the developers that work together should have similar skills and
experience behind them. When game company x, commercial game company x,
hires employees they try to hire programmers with similar experience and
skills. Why?
That is because if all members on the team have the same skills and
experience no one has to look over their shoulder and see if they are
doing their job correctly. Else the in experienced dude will make
mistakes the experienced programmers will have to go back correct,
rewrite, whatever involving more work. The experienced dudes will be
doing all the work while the inexperienced dudes will just slow them down.
Third, a common coding style. I know inexperienced programmers say what
is the difference, but there is a big difference. The way someone
programs is usually associated with how they think out problems and
problem solve. Two programmers won't necessarily think the same, format
the same, or generate the same kind of code. Some common coding
conventions must be agreed upon.
For example, let us say an experienced dude likes to use short variable
names like cd, px, py, etc. A les experienced programmer might want to
use full variable names like currentDistance, playerX, playerY, etc to
make his code more readable. This has to be discussed before any coding
is started to insure everything will be the same for everyone. In this
instance both parties would probably adopt full variable names as it
would be easily readable to everyone and not just the dude who wrote it.
Finally, there is the matter of time sharing and payment. If I worked 12
hours per week and my partners only did 4 each should I get tripple
their pay for the game? You need to think about how the income is
redistributed. In my opinion the guy who put the most hours in gets the
most pay.

[Audyssey] Side-scroller vs Raceway.

2008-03-25 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi,
Well, actually I have thought of working on Raceway. I haven't forgotten
about the game. However, right now I do want to get the basic structure
of the side-scroller completed. Just yesterday I spent most of the day
creating empty functions to get the basic layout in place. In many
respects creating a game is like a book. You first creat the shell,
outline, and then fill in the actual content. You can add functions like
this.

public void PlayerRunLeft()
{
}

public void PlayerRunRight()
{
}

Even though those functions don't currently do anything they are like
place holders. Once you have most of the functions you need in the code
you can then go in and fill in what they do.

public void RunLeft()
{

double x = player.IsX();

// Update x.
x = x - 1;

// More code goes here.
// Add bla.
}

You see how that works. You can get everything structured the way you
want it and then fill in each block with whatever needs to be done.

Re: [Audyssey] Pre-ordering was MOTA.

2008-03-25 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Will,
First, I have actually tried Che's way of doing pre-ordered Beta's with
Montezuma's Return and it ended in disaster. Granted that was mainly in
part do to events out of my control, but now all those people who
trusted me, purchased in good faith, got burned because I have to
replace their product with something else.
Second, I will not charge for the new side-scroller. Again it was not
their fault, and if anyone is to blame at all for this it is big
companies and their copyrights. We can't challenge them on an equal
footing, and I've learned not to try and sell anything with a
copyrighted name attached.
Honestly though this might have all been for the best in the long run.
The new game I am working on may actually have more replay value for you
and everyone else. The older Montezuma's Revenge game was showing its
age, and isn't able to satisfy customers that have been exposed to the
way things are done now.
However, to be perfectly honest my rendition of the Montezuma's Revenge
style game wasn't totally true to the original either. Some things were
much harder in the original. There were no potions to get health points
back. If you touched a monster in any way shape or form you were dead as
a door nail. Perhaps if I had stuck to an exact clone you would not have
been as disappointed with the game. I see how I have done that game a
disservice just by not doing an exact clone of it.
On the other hand I can hear it now. This game is too hard, I get
touched by a monster, and I die. Can you make it easier?

Keep on exploring until you find an amulet in a basin full of liquid. Use
Shadow Magic or Elementalism to take the amulet. Now keep exploring until
you find three Ghastly Witherers (note the Ghastly). Slay them all and all
three runes on your amulet will be glowing. Take the amulet back to the door
and use it there. The door should open. The mirror needs a ring you get from
Tallys by visiting him at his cottage outside his trading post.

Re: [Audyssey] Braile rubics cube

2008-03-25 Thread Charles Rivard
I bought a cube, then marked it myself. You can do it any way you like.
Glue differently shaped pieces of felt or other material onto the cubes, or
use an engraver, as I did, to mark each of the 9 cubes on the same side as
if they were dice. For example, a single dot in the center on all of 1
side, and directly across from that, a row of 3 dots along the left and
right sides for a total of 6 dots per cube. 3 diagonally placed marks on
each cube of 1 side, and a dot in each corner of each cube on the opposite
side. A dot in the upper left and lower right corner of 1 side and a dot in
each corner and 1 in the center of each cube of the opposite side. These
are just some thoughts on how to label a puzzle inexpensively. HTH

Re: [Audyssey] Playstation II games

2008-03-25 Thread chou.clement
Actualy you'd be amazed at how many are completely accessible, once you
learn menus and such. Here are a few to bare in mind.

Urban Reign
Soul Calibur 2 and 3
Onimusha: blade warriors
Marvel VS. Capcom 2
MK: deception
MK: Armageddon
MK: Deadly alliance

There are more, but I need to rush.

No Ann, I'm also depressed about that. People have told me to just get a
cube and get someone to help me label it. There used to actually be many
braille games that there isn't now, cludo, the cube, many other games as
well.

Hi.

Just a question to ron, or indeed tom or anyone else who's written for audeasy.
I've done an artical and sent it off to what I believe is the right address but
got no reply. I tried the editer at audeasy.org address but got a "returned

Can someone please let me know where to send my artical so that ron will get it

ron, please just mail me so that i can send the thing to you.

thanks in advance.

Hi Ann,
I'm not sure if they still make the brailled ones, but you can still
find regular ones in stores like Toys Are Us and Wal-Mart. I actually
was thinking of buying one not long ago and brailling it up. Either
that, coming up with a talking Rubics Cube program.

Hi Charles

The edition should be out tonight/tomorrow at the latest. I've put
everything in just have to write my Editor's section, give it a last check,
and hope when I cut/paste to OE that it won't do those funny things and only
have one or two words on a line. I think I've remembered the suggestions we

[Audyssey] mush client

2008-03-25 Thread john snowling
Hi all.

I'm trying to play a mud called Imperian using both mush client and Mud bot
for maps within the game.

The problem I'm getting is that under global preferences the timer under
global settings only allows me to be connected for up to 2 minutes. Is
there a keep alive system within mush client or do I need to look for that
within the mud.

Thanks.

[Audyssey] Blog Entry

2008-03-25 Thread Jeffrey Parker

TysDomain.com posted the following about ACE Games:
I’ve just been listening to how poor tristan got hacked, and would like
to start off with a few wel-chosen comments about his so-called
registered trademarks, and incorperated company.

First, I’d like to point out that this kid is, 12. Which, I guess
doesn’t mean much, but it shows how pathetic this so-called business
is. Along with a game, that wasn’t written by him, (lotgd), on his site
is an uploader, which was being used as some sort of p2p, his
advertized content is a program that lets you look at his website with
a bigger screen.

OK. ace games, is accessible computer entertainment.

For the life of me, I haven’t been able to figure out how, viewing the
website in a larger format is going to help with much of anything, much
less conform to the “accessible computer entertainment” specifications.

I’d also like to comment on his lovely coding abbilities.

Besides the fact that he’s blaming everyone for the fact that he can’t
code, and as a result, his website is getting broken into, I haven’t
seen anything that signifies any type of good coding. The website looks
like it was written by some 12-year-old immature kid, who has nothing
better to do. Only thing that isn’t there that I expected to see is a
“donate to cheridy! Help develop your games, by clicking this button.
have your cash, check, or credit card ready,” advertizement.

So, beyond this. I’d like to say, that in my opinion, Tristan,
AceGames, and those associated are an embarrassment to the blind
community, and set a low standard for acegames.

On top of this, I’d like to point out, that we had a 200+ or so skype
chat, that kept running for weeks on end, because Tristan got mad
because I wouldn’t let him code on vertigo. Mature, lets just prove a
point there. I’ll spam you, to show my knowledge in coding.

Anyway, rant over, hope you all enjoy.

I think it is a bit mean, but some true. I wish Tristan good luck though!

Re: [Audyssey] Sryth The Eye of Arngaror

2008-03-25 Thread Bryan Peterson
If you're referring to the gems in the idols, they're supposed to disappear.
Those aren't the Eye of Arngaror. Once all three gems are removed there are
two stone hands. The one in the west chamber needs to point toward the east,
while the one in the east should point to the west. That will open up the
way for you.
Time is an illusion, lunchtime doubly so.

As for a talking program, hmmm, that might be interesting. But, there
really is something about holding the real solid thing in your hands and
twisting it that is rather satisfying.

Hi Everyone,
Ok Just today I got to this point where you have to turn these different arms

sequence of movements that you have to preform. Ok wanted to let everyone know
that I haven't been playing sryth for a very long time do to health problems.
Won't get into details on list don't want to bring the list down. Also don't
really know what has changed about sryth itself or The wiki page. Except about
the noticable changes and also Don't remember how to access the sryth maps on
the wiki page.

Re: [Audyssey] Intro!

2008-03-25 Thread shaun everiss
hmm my favourites are in catogries.
gtc, and shades of doom arequite good fps titles.
superliam although I have never got passed waterworks and even then never got
passed lab level act 2 at all is still good for what it is.
stfc is a good stratogy game as are gtc and sod gtc has more stratogy in it
though.
tarzan junior although simple is good if you need to kill an hour.
troop1 and 2 are good, so is judgement day, alien outback.
Soundrts is also good if I ever am able to pass the 3rd chapter in the compaign.
All the spoonbill, and games by kitchensinc are good for what they are, I don't
have a favorite in these every day games, oh, well saying that life is also
good if you want to kill 30 minutes.
lonewolf is reasonable to.
Hated games.
trek2k would be a game I really don't care about mainly due to stfc.
shoot da me is real crappy currently although the new version sounds promising,
at the moment the game is far to easy and the ini game does not work.
soundmud, mailybecause I couldn't play it well.

Middle games.
These games are games I don't dislike nore like to do long term.
 the bavisoft games.
These are good if I want to test reflexes and kill time but its really not much
fun afterwards.
Lastcrusade is the same althoug with random char and enemy stats you can have a
different story each time.
Treasure hunt, well I have never completed the demo.
I always die, its fun to smash things.
Tourniment, mainly because its not got much action.
You push a few keys and listen to status messages.

Games I'd like converted.
cosmoserve was one of my interactive fiction favorites.
so were a few other things, starcross stationfall and planet fall since they
were a series.
tactae, sorry I forgot the name.
streemdiver, and moments in time.
deep space drifter and ditchday drifter.

Sighted games I'd really want as accessible.
doom1-3.
wolf3d and the return to wolf.
the duke nukem series or at least one of them.
some sort of starwars game.
some startrek game like eleteforce1 or 2.
An
Americas army.
some sort of space fighter simulater, and something like fsx or something along
these lines.
I'd also like more hybrid, sound/graphics games like teraformas, and also some
games that have action, adventure style if and dialog.
I'd like a game that would be require so much that my computer would crash hard
and corrupt the drive.
We really don't have games that are going to be over what our specs can handle
but we are geting close.
I didn't mention sidescrollers because unless they are good, or are around with
some or all the origional sounds in tact I really don't care.
audioquake, mainly because its not something I really play much.

Hmm.
Here are my views.
A load of people are getting hacked.
Triston.
hmm.
I don't know about the things.
Ok this guy to his credit has no games really.
He did host rsgames for a bit till it got spammed.
But yeah, its not really much, we havn't got news from there.
Saying that maybe its just a place holder for when this guy actually does get
all his things right.
I mean he has the asset which is smart, as long as you want to do something
with it.

Re: [Audyssey] Intro!

2008-03-25 Thread aiden gardiner
Got to agree there. How about seing something like medal of honour
accessible? I'd love to see some military warfare style game where you get
to either be a lone soldier, or in the case of a game like conflict desert
storm, a group of soldiers. In that game, you control 1 man, but if you want
another man to do something, you can either press a button to control him,
if the order isn't in the order selection, or just select from an order list

Re: [Audyssey] submitting articals to audeasy

2008-03-25 Thread aiden gardiner
Hi Ron.

Where can I get the latest version of audyssey magazine? I've looked on
audio games, kelly Sapergia's Audyssey page, even on the audyssey home page,
but i can't find it anywhere. From what i've read, there seems to be only 49
issues showing up on the first 2 pages, the latest being the first quarter
of 2007 issue. i've read it, and i love the ones i've read so far.

Keep up the good work

Re: [Audyssey] Playstation II games

2008-03-25 Thread jason
Hi, List that's why I like the playstation system. x box is also accessible
too, however since we really don't need all those graphics playstation is
still a good system. I even like the sound affects in the sports games and
army games at least you can here what's going on by sound once you are
familiar with the game itself. Now we just need to make them accessible fo
the computer some how.

Completely agreed, Jason. That and the XBox controller I find is a bit too
bulky for my hands, but that's a personal thing.

Re: [Audyssey] Intro!

2008-03-25 Thread jason
Hi, I like it allot. it puts you in a war simulation. however even though
you are protecting your base it would be cool if you can pilot the base and
make it fly and shoot targets down as you are flying right passed them make
the base moble that would be cool.

Sincerely,
Jason

2008-03-25 Thread Ron Schamerhorn
Hi Aiden

As for the various sites I'm not sure how up to date the issues are. If you
however search the Audyssey website
http://www.audyssey.org
You should be able to locate any past mags. Also the latest issue hot
through email should arrive in your inbox very soon. Thanks for saying you
enjoy the magazine, it's always great to hear!

Take care
Ron
