We would like to remind you of an upcoming event:

The GayBombay Sunday Meet!

Date: 5 June 2005.
Time: 5:30PM - 6:00PM IST (GMT+05:30).
Venue: JATC (Just Around The Corner), Bandra.

We meet at JATC at 5:30 p.m. We may then move to another venue close by for an
informal chat.

At Bandra Station, on the WEST side, take a rickshaw to Turner Road; at Turner
Road take a right at Tawaa Restaurant (you will see ICICI Bank on your left
after the turn). Keep going straight for about two minutes; you will see the
big blue signboard of 'JUST AROUND THE
CORNER' on the left.

If you are coming from Linking Road take the very next left turn from the first
petrol pump which leads to the Flying Machine Store. On driving down the
crossing of two lanes you will see a huge blue coloured board with JUST AROUND
THE CORNER written onto it.

You can also take a bus going down Turner Road (Khar Station bus or Chumm
Village bus). Get off near Tawaa Restaurant and walk to JATC in 5 minutes.

~~~
Note :
1. Ensure that you get to JATC before 6:00 pm - in case the evening carries
over to another gay-friendly place close by.
2. You have to be above the age of 18 to attend this event.
3. GB as a support group, has created this comfort/safe space for gays, many of
whom may be newbies (those still coming to terms with their sexuality and who
have mustered courage to come for such a meeting for the first time). So we
request you to be sensitive to the
comfort levels of others attending the meeting and behave and dress accordingly.
4. To identify the group look out for someone wearing a BLACK cap.
Deat Editor,
My name is Kim Dower. I have graced the pages of the Rocky  the Post several times in the last eleven months, as well as being on most of the local news channels. I filed a discrimination charge against King soopers in July of 2004. My e-mail is [EMAIL PROTECTED] , my ph. # is 303-870-8323. I now live in Aurora, Co.
I just happened to be reding the article on Governor Owens' veto of SB05-28(addition of sexual orientation to Colorado antidiscrimination law), when Lee Greenwood's song, "I proud to be an American" came on the radio. I began to reflect on the ramifications are for those of us who do not have the "Freedom" to be who we are. People in the GLBT community are not afforded the same rights as other Americans. We cannot take for granted the freedoms that some Americans have. Because we do not fit the mold that a few "Radical Right" people have defined as being American. We are considered less than human by them  therefore do not deserve any rights. Because of this attitude that exists in society, we not just want but require protecttion from those who would prevent us from the pursuit of happiness. If one cannot sustain or even find employment,
how can one even begin to acquire the "slice of the American dream" that we Americans talk so proudly about everyone that comes here has the right and opportunity to acquire, or even the basic needs required for exiistence. I am a Transgender  I know personally people who cannot even find entry level jobs because they are Transgender. I know engineers, business execs, professors, insurance execs, IT execs,all who have lost their jobs because they dare come out. In many cases they cannot find work in their field of expertise. To hear Governor Owens say we are protected under other laws is laugable. I just spent a year of my life fighting to be able to who I am(MtF Ts). Had it not been that I worked if Denver I would have had no recourse but to be fired or quit my job as a pharmacist. (the City of Denver has an
antidiscrimination law that protects GLBT people) Omce a GLBT person has been fired because they dare to comeout be whio they are, it is very difficult if not impossible to find work especially in their chosen field of expertise. Governor Owens' depiction of the long lines that will form on thecourthouse steps is toally withoyur merit. First, if there are that many lawsuits waiting to be filed then there must be a serious  urgent need for specila protection of the GLBT community. Secondly,  most importantly, when it comes to discriminmation cases it is not very easy to get to the point where you are alled to file a lawsuit. After filing a charge of discrimination you must go through tireless  seemingly endless negotiations through a specific mediation process. This is put in place by antidiscrimination
puposely to avoid any unnecessary lawsuits. It is only after having the Antidiscrimination office find in your favor and the failure of mandatory mediation after that willyou be allowed to file a lawsuit. These lawsuits go on for years  are very costly for both sides. Governor owens is already aware of this. He is just trying to soothe his already aching political career. Governor Owens did do one good thing by allowing sexual orientation to added to "Hate Crimes" bill. Governor I hope you sleep well knowing the GLBT person who is fired or denied a job to today might not be murdered they'll only starve to death!
As for Focus on the Family I can only shake my head.I was unaware the Melissa Fryrear had a doctorate in Genetics. I woukd be quite interested in reading the results of her research on where she proved that being GLBT is not genetic. The field of genetics has barely been scratched yet Ms. Fryrear Knows it is not genetic to be GLBT it is a choice. If it is a
Economic Viewpoint Competition or Collaboration?
ByParanjoyGuha Thakurta | May31,2005 |Email article to a friend
Even before Chinese Premier Weng Jiabao's visit to India in April, the international media had gone to town about Asia's two giants. The world's two most populous countries, India and China, together account for almost 40 per cent of the planet's population and would become two of three largest economies (with the US) by the middle of the century. Will the element of competition dominate relations between India and China or will the two collaborate more closely? The two countries are competing intensely with each other to purchase crude oil from international markets. Yet, India and China have not even begun cooperating in their search for hydrocarbon resources in different parts of the world. Will this pattern change? In December, the US National Intelligence Council had remarked: "In the same way as commentators refer to the 1900s as the American century, the early 21st century may be seen as the time when some in the developing world, led by India and
 China, come into their own." In its March 3 issue, the Economist carried a special article in which the two countries were contrasted. Two of the sub-headings read: 'Sweatshops and technocoolies' and 'Two concepts of liberty'. On April 27, the Financial Times of the UK published a special glossy supplement on 'Asia's emerging giants'. John Ridding, Editor and Publisher, Financial Times, Asia, wrote: "India's vibrant democracy has proved its ability to arbitrate between classes and social groups, but still faces the daunting challenges of urbanisation and alleviating poverty. While China's record on raising incomes is impressive, growing affluence without increased political representation may become a source of instability." During his visit, Weng repeatedly asserted that China and India are 'partners, not rivals'. Should such statements be dismissed as media hype? Bilateral trade between the two countries has risen dramatically from US dollar 100 million in 1994 to
 US dollar 13.6 billion in 2004 -jumping by more than 75 per cent over the last two years. However, trade with India is only 1 per cent of China's international trade whereas trade with China is around 9 per cent of India's total world trade. A few years ago, Indian businessmen were scared of cheap Chinese imports flooding our markets. One is not hearing such fears being publicly expressed these days. In fact, within a year or two, China is all set to displace the US as India's largest trading partner. Nevertheless, most comparisons between the two countries are unflattering as far as India is concerned. In 1936, China's per capita income was 26 per cent higher than that of India. By 1977, this proportion had risen to one-third and China's average income is currently said to be nearly twice as high. One out of three Indians is illiterate against 6 per cent in China. Half the children in this country complete five years of elementary schooling whereas this proportion
 is almost 100 per cent in China. Still, this is not the entire story. China is one of the most unequal societies in the world-a confidential study by its Academy of Social Sciences stated that over 90 per cent of that country's 20,000 richest people were related to officials in the government or in the ruling Communist party. More than 780 million Chinese farmers cannot till today own land or use land as security to obtain loans. India cannot attract one-tenth of the US dollar 50 billion foreign direct investment that flows into China each year. But what is unstated is that the two countries classify FDI very differently. The IMF found that if China and India followed identical classification, China's FDI inflow would drop to 2 per cent of its gross domestic product against 1.7 per cent of GDP in the case of India. It is clear that both countries have a lot to learn from each other. Each has to respect the other's strengths. Only then would a balance be
 struck between competition and collaboration. g_b Pottywood-A Burlesque
2005-06-03 Thread K-Y Jelly
Hullo Folks
Here's something for all of you to read, enjoy and oh yes don't be afraid to laugh...Only that reading this ream might be to the dentriment of your time, so make sure you willing to splurge some of your time on it...
G
You know something, even someone who’s as thick as two short planks wouldn’t find it difficult to pigeonhole today’s Bollywood film genres into the following categories:
Schmaltzy, hokey, lovey-dovey and unnecessarily grandiose and lavishly made family dramas…yes family dramas in the true sense of the word in which fathers, wives, sons and daughters come together to crank out sometimes boringly familiar and stale performances like clockwork…This is more so especially if the actors and the filmmaker are really strongly related either by marriage, profession or even by bed, so to speak…This I say irrespective of one’s gender or sexual orientation…
Now the above point segues into the one which spotlights yet another idiosyncrasy of the present-day films: sting operation and casting couch…It’s not for any other reason that I had refrained from opening the papers for news…And it’s devilishly amazing to find nothing but loads of claptrap that’s turned out in these papers hinging on a flimsy and flighty premise such as casting couch…I do agree that it’s a very prevalent issue that has been styled a necessary evil even in today’s day and age but boy come on give us a break…It’s as though there wasn’t anything else that had been happening round the globe…Picture this: some luminary dies and the news is well covered but the reportage makes room for a mention of a sting…someone scores a goal, jolly good show, mate!! and then you can’t help noticing what a
 candid camera had to capture on its lens about a nearly veteran and popular comic displaying his overtures to rope a hapless victim in on to the couch…ouch!! Some pretty lady unwittingly or intentionally drags a famed director and producer out of the closet on his very chat show and then you find what a no-count politician has to say about casting couch…height of mockery if you ask me…I mean what has failed to either impress or dawn upon me was whether this was a means of maligning and tarnishing the little repute that these people possess or glorify such atrocities…Even before, it was the song and dance made of the a few surreptitiously shot oral sex photos of a school-going couple on a camera phone and doled out to the worthy and fortunate few by an incredibly daring and equally doltish IIT student…This went on about unchecked for about three months…Making news isn’t wrong…Everyone wants news to live, to know about themself and the kind of world they’ve been made to survive in and
 to take their heads away from the clouds and wake up and smell the coffee or the reek of such never-ending shitty reportage…But I say enough’s enough!! There are stories, adventures and misadventures alike galore that have been swept under the carpet and then everyone is blessed and there’s no misery in the world…Isn’t the world the best place to live? Skeletons have been rotting in very many putatively unknown cupboards since time immemorial and so be it, why not take pity and leave it just at that…?
The third type is the films that are increasingly becoming too much to take and handle…I mean can any one tell me how much of a shame can the proverbial cat of nine lives be put to when a person is a model-turned-Miss Utopia-turned-actor-turned-director-turned-producer-turned-God only knows what’s next…?
 The word item number grosses me out so much so that I either snap, get up and stalk out of the scene or steal out of it…Not everyone can make a chayya chayya or a khallas or even a number which has a reed-thin, seemingly voluptuous, and unsavourily bedizened and dolled up strumpet-like lass-only to appear more revolting…Have we not had to endure enough sleaze and skank in those non-filmy albums which were the appallingly transmuted versions of the evergreen and immortal smash hit songs of the bygone era?...
 Again I’m not trying to play devil’s advocate or an Uncle Scrooge(in terms of being an inveterate grumpy cynic), I’m only trying to moot the idea or air my view, if you like, of how simply more preposterous it could get by picturing those ‘show me the colour of your money and I’ll shimmy my way up to your bedroom or shake some booty for you’ tarts in an abominably squalid and decadent fashion…?Frankly, not only have I been fed up to the stomach but also have had to keep making allowances for such on-screen smut…
 If you sit back and take notice all those so-called item number lassies who have till now been sitting pretty have wised up to the dearth of ambition in them for doing such bar-girl roles…They suddenly appear to have had a nirvanic brush and start looking for roles that would make them a little money if not any sense…If Britney’s I’m a slave was a hit it’s because it had the person without whom it would’ve been a disaster-Britney herself…
g_b Aapke nazmon ke itne aadi ho gaye hain hum
2005-06-03 Thread Prasad S
Hi Guys,
Something for Sahil,
Aapke nazmon ke itne aadi ho gaye hain hum,
Ke Mail kholte hi pehle aapka naam dhoondte hain...
Afsan ke lateefon ko tho padte hi hain...
Par usse se phele aapke sheron ka mokaam dhoondte hain.
Har ek dard ko aap nichodke alfazon mein dhaalte hain...
Har ek ke mohabat ko jaise izahar kar rahen ho..
Har ek ke aansoon ke dhaage mein jaise piroke...
Koi muskaan ko badi khoobi se pesh kar rahen ho.
Par kuch dinon se nazar nahin aa rahi aapki shayari,
Kya haal hain .. kuch bayaan toh karo...
Intezaar to humme aaj bhi hain aapke nagmon ki...
Naye nagmon ko phirse lafson mein bayan to karo.
