Indian tourism industry targets gay, lesbian travellers

IANS, Jan 28, 2011, 10.11pm IST

NEW DELHI: Gay and lesbian tourists are big spenders and vacation savvy and
are being increasingly targeted by travel operators in India
 , said travel experts at
the 18th South Asia Travel and Tour Expo
  (SATTE) Friday.

"Gays or lesbians are the biggest spender on lifestyle products. They have
maximum disposable incomes as they come from DINK (Double Income, No Kids)
group. So they are recession proof and they are vacation savvy," said Thomas
Boemkes, managing director, Tom On Tour, a portal for gay travellers and
friends.

A special session on 'Gay and Lesbian Tourism'
  was organised by SATTE.

"Gay men usually come in groups from Western Europe
 , United States
  and Canada
  and their favourite
destination is Kerala, Rajasthan and Varanasi," director of Indjapink,
India's first and only gay travel boutique for gay vacations, Sanjay
Malhotra, said.

He also said after the Delhi
  high court ruling in
favour of homosexuals, the tourism industry in Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual,
Transgender
  (LGBT) community has increased manifold.

On July 2, 2009, the Delhi high court had ruled in favour of scrapping
Section 377 of the Indian Penal Code that criminalises sexual acts between
consenting adults of the same gender.

A total of 38 countries are participating in the exhibition that started
Friday in Pragati Maidan, which has stalls from 25 states of India.

Queer groups celebrate with pride

*Allow me be, just another being/ I’m just a shade in the rainbow/ Allow me
be, what I truly am/ A brilliant shade in the rainbow.*

Composer and musician Krishnakumar Venkitachalam wrote this chorus to his
Rainbow Song during the gay rights agitation in 2008. Two years down the
line, the song once again captured the spirit of the queer movement when he
sang it during a concert at Bandra’s Carter Road promenade on Thursday
night.

The concert, which had five gigs by rock bands with queer members, was part
of the on-going celebrations of the Queer Pride Week, which will culminate
in the annual Queer Pride March on Saturday. “I may be gay, but I identify
myself more as a human being. My song is about liberation and human rights
for all minorities,” said Kris, the name by which Venkitachalam is popularly
known.

Kris, a medical doctor by qualification, took up rock music when he moved to
Mumbai from Kerala in 2005, and is a member of three bands in the city — he
plays the bass guitar with Shor Bazaar and Cirkles, and is a guitarist and
vocalist for his own venture, Ideat Savante. All three bands performed in
the concert, along with Anand Bhaskar’s band MH04 and city-based lesbian
punk performers Alisha Batth and Alish Pais.

g_b GB Special Sunday Meet on Relationships on 6 February 2011

2011-01-28 Thread GayBombay Events
GB Special Sunday Meet on Relationships

What do gay guys mean when they say, I am looking for relationship?

Sex?

An affair till it doesn’t get boring?

A trophy boyfriend to flaunt to the world?

A partner to introduce to parents as life partner?

A relationship of convenience, strictly to take care of loneliness and old age?

A big shot to enjoy expensive gifts and lifestyle?

A cute boyfriend just for the heck, because a friend has one?

An adorable guy to fall in love with and stay together and committed till death?

Gay relationships are complicated. Guys who desperately want a relationship,
have no clue what they want out it. Some want to take a break from mindless,
marathon sex. For some, seeking relationship is a passing phase. Some guys just
want to prove that they were not responsible for their last break up.

Some couples get very close and make room for doubts and insecurity. Some give
enough space and bond with infidelity. One partner wants to be open about their
polygamy; other partner wants to pretend monogamy. One wants to stay closeted,
other wants to do masters in PDA. One is married to woman; his boyfriend is
divorced to political correct friends.

Now the good news is, there are some couples who have sailed over these rough
waters. Couples who have been in a rock solid, strong relationship spanning 1
year to more than 20 years. Couples who are going to share their stories,
insights and experiences to address your queries.

Well, if you find all this boring, here is the fun quotient. A rapid fire round
to judge the most eligible guy for relationship, compatibility test for couples
and match fixing.

Here is your chance to get an inside view of long-distance, open, bisexual,
short-term and whatnot relationships. Or meet guys who are single and happy by
choice.

If you wish to attend this special meet as a couple or are interested in
contesting for “Most Eligible Guy for Relationship”, pals shoot an email to :
