RE: g_b What Others Have To Say About Lata Mangeshkar !
dear not-so-sweet angel, as a taxpaying citizen of this country, every person has a right to demand from the govt the things for his/her well-being. and the same thing madam lata mangeshkar has done.she has just supported the cause of the residents of her locality alongwith her neighbours. what is wrong in that ? don't you seeprotests against new dams, mega-highways ? why ? because your so called development is harming their very existance. if unfortunately the flyover does take place, you will be using it to drive recklesslyadding to pollution and increasing the decibel levels of the surrounding.what is wrong if the affected citizens raise their objection ?lesser mortels like rahul gandhi are given big banglows much beyond their entitlementwith taxpayers money, but you will be silenton it. just think of creating a small constrution that affects his peace and you will be barred from doing so. and nobody will ever say anything about it... then why is it with dearlata mangeshkar ? she has created joy through her work for millions of people in this country. she deserves much much better treatment. insted you are making her fight for such petty reasons like a flyover ? it is shame on her millions of fans. they should raise their voice and support her. and it is shame on our govt that such a 'gem' of our country hasjust to think of leaving this country for sucha reason. and mind well, she has not yet left the country. just expressed her anguish in a desparate moment. you are bestowing flowers on NRIs like amartya sen whohas nothing to do with this country or made no big contribution to this country. or you wont talk about amitabh bachchan who already enjoys an NRI status. then why this hallabaloo forher alone ? her social contribution is far greater than many others. she has helped many a needy- personally (as was quoted by the beneficieries ) andcollectively by organising fund raising shows. so she deserves a much better treatment. andto say about my friend's comments on the "Matching tune for tune", it would only be fair to say that Lata mangeshkar is Lata mangeshkar for her recorded work for last few decades and not for her recent live performances. can any artist of today match hersong "manamohana bade zoote" or "rasik balama" ? she is aging now. so please don't compare the setting sun with the street lamps. the lamps are a mere stop-gap arrangement. they don't support the life. thanks. Sweet Angel [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Dont get me wrong, I have nothing against Lata Mangeshkar or for that matter any Actors / Actress / Singers that are famous. But then thats what she is, a famous singer. True she might have some fans but then even Jack the Ripper might have had fans. I think she is just someone who is very good in her job of singing, just like we have good lawyers, good accountants, good con-men etc. And for being that good in her job shes being paid very well too I guess thats where our admiration for such people should end. Making ourselves feel they are God, makes them pressurize the government to not make flyovers, (which could have helped lacs of people travel to fro suburbs a lot faster), just because the flyover happened to have pass near her residence. And then threatening to leave India settle in Dubai if the Govt. went ahead with the fly-over is a bit too much no matter how good you sing. Some of you might not like it but the fact of the matter remains that shes an Artist is is paid to do her job I think if you would listen to her sing in a concert without really thinking or knowingwho is singing you would find many other talented singers could match her tune for tune. And about the good words that other have said about her, I can only say that these film stars have never said bad about anyone all of them use the same words to describe any other senior artist. If you dont belive me just check out the newspaper for quotes when the next time a senior Bollywood character dies. The industry will turn him into a Saint who had never done a wrong thing in his / her entire life how he was loved by the Stars / Producers / Directors / Spot Boys. Re: g_b Whether to pursue a relationship (gay) or not ........
well said dear rakshas, your views r most practical. we can not shun our responsibilities. yet, getting acceptance of our near n dear ones for our gay relationship is the first step towards getting the acceptance of the society by large.every gay should read and ponder over what you have said in this mail. it will take us together forward in the direction of a better tomorrow. moreover, it is something like this...our freedom fighters made many sacrifices for a better tomorrow of their future generations. they paid the price , the dividends of which we are enjoying in terms of political freedom. in the same way, each generation has to make some sacrifices (like coming out to our families despite facing the ugly situations ) so that our future generations can have a stepping stone from where they can march a step still further. rakshas04 [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Hello guys, Have been following the discussion on an article posted by Mahesh, for a while now, and am keen to write my views on the same. Instead of replying to Mahesh, or Akki on their perspectives, I'd like to air my own views on them. Hope this will be duly appreciated and candid views on the same will be made known. Whether to pursue a relationship (gay) or not keeping in mind the familial, personal and societal responsibilities. Let us begin with analyzing what a relationship means. 'Relationship' can have different meaning for different people depending on what one wants out of a relationship and also depending upon what a perception has the individual had in his life. Relationship according to me is purely a level of understanding between the two individuals who are entering upon it. But as we all live in a very closely knit Indian society, which in every aspect differs, for the better, from the western societies, the term `Relationship' takes a different definition. In the Indian context, a relationship can be defined as The consented agreement reached upon by the individuals entering a relationship, keeping in mind their familial and societal responsibilities, taking into consideration the active consent of the immediate family, with a conscious effort to make them aware of the facts of being GAY. Now why I am stressing the point of the consent of the family here is because in the Indian context families play an important part in one's life. Given the fact that we men have to share the responsibilities of the family. Some of us are the only sons (and others who have siblings too) and so just to have a relationship we cannot and should not shun the responsibility of our respective families. Also to have the approval of our immediate family and close circle of friends kind of legitimizes the whole relation, which is frowned upon by the society at large and is criminalized by the archaic article by the law. Such kind of approval goes a long way in sustaining a relationship which seem to be very fragile and ephemeral in the GAY (Men = promiscuous) world. Agreed that the family's response to their son being gay and entering a gay relationship is not cheers and hugs, but a frown, many tears and badmouthing causing hurt on either part. But then again hurt is a result of ignorance and the inability to see the bigger picture. We as GAYS get hurt because we are unable to rationale why is it difficult for our family to understand why we are the way we are and in the process start demeaning ourselves. On the other hand the family thinks that there is something seriously wrong with their son and his upper faculties and many a treatments are recommended starting at the `ojhas' and ending up with the psychiatrists. In some cases forced marriage is seen. Nonetheless it is all due to ignorance and the inability to understand which is often due to adamancy not to accept what we don't know about. This can be changed and people can be made to understand what being gay is all about. And for doing so we ourselves should be comfortable with being gay and not to demean ourselves in thought, actions or words. Now lets see what responsibilities we have towards our families. And by family I mean the immediate family (parents and siblings). The primary responsibility we have towards our families is to look after the family in terms of finances, care and nurture. Many of us having come out to our families have strained relations with our family members and thus tend to think that why should we care when they are not willing to accept us for what we are. But let me assure you that such a thought process only helps in generating hurt and more distances between us and our family. No matter what they are the ones who gave us birth and it is obligatory upon us to care for them and being GAY it is the way we all feel as we all have a woman's heart within us and that is what makes us special or supernormal. So our responsibility lies in making them see what a GAY person is like through our

i am not so keenly following the gurukul or for that matter any other musical competitions as there is less consideration of merit and more to the regional / linguistic biases or to other irrelevant things like looks/ personality. the only show which i could realy enjoy was the very first SA RE GA MA hosted by Sonu nigam. after that there is a downfall in every program. Somehow Indians are not able to differentiate the diamond from the stone. It was ridiculous to see Arijit go out againt Qazi. Rex is cho chweethis actions on the stage is great. Voice superb. Choice of songs suit his temperament. Rendition excelent. and today he brought tears by his song. He was a bit more then perfect. Arpita is very good and matured too. But of late her voice is quivering. She is too stressed out i think. the othe girl rooprekha sings better but seems lifeless. Personally i like Arpita...but yet rooprekha sings better. all said and done...Qazi winning by 40 lakh votes is a shame. Even the judges decide every time to put him in danger zone. But India thinks those judges are a bunch of fools. What a pity. Somu Yahoo! Groups Sponsor ~-- DonorsChoose.org helps at-risk students succeed. Re: g_b Aiyaa.......... Lata Baai!!
hi, when it comes to doing justice to lata's songs, it does not matter if the face does not match with the voice.. what matters most is 1) how are the lip and neck and body movements and more importantly 2) are the expressions matching with the feelings that latadidi had poured into the song... on these account, i feel that nutan and nargis had done justice to most of her songs. who can forget the on screen performances of nutan for songs--manmohana bade zoote (bandini) and tera jana, dil ke armaanon ka loot jana.. (anadi) ? and who can forget nargis sing rasik balama, jaha main jaati hoon, (chori chori), dam bhar jo udhar muh phere o chanda (aawara) ? bijoy rath [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Hi, Sahil, I do agree about that song being 1 of the master pieces. Yes! I hav heard it n no. of times and still love to hear it again and again. There might b debate about who performed best on screen and gave full justice to her song. g_b Re: Marathi Movies - A Treat in itselves.......basically, Too titha mee
basically, Too titha mee was a story of an old couple who were made to live separate from each other just for the convenience of their children. the same thing was depicted in baghbaan so i thought it was a remake since i saw Too titha mee much earlier than Baghbaan. however, the treatment to the subject was entirely different while Too ... was much more realistic mainly highlighting the helplessness of the old couple in dealing with the situation and their rediscovery of love for each other, Baaghban was a glossy version with so many add-on substories such as of paresh rawal and salman khan... and a loong 'bhaashan' by amithbh at the end...this all made it a preaching story. i had a chance to see devrai recently. it was a story of a patient of schizophrenia (sorry, i am not sure what is the correct name), a mental disorder marked by illusions and confusing between imagination and reality ...i liked the performance of sonali kulkarni playing the sister of the patient. of course, atul kulkarni, the patient, was superb. Vivek R Anand [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Was baghban remake of a marathi movie ? I had forgotten the name. Was dying to see Shwaas. Went to theatres twice but did not get tickets. Smita does fight the discrimination but also if you remember in her fighting discrimination she tells the authorities that Such things do happen and can be treated with pshyciatric help which was rather sad. The film came from the likes of Dr. Jabbar Patel and had Smita and Girish karnad. I wonder at that time ( and believe me i grew up in 70's and they were bold times with bold themes ) if anyone in the team actually gave it a thought before incorporating such a dialogue in the film. Marathi cinema has given us some more memorable films like Paathlaag ( remade as Mera Saaya in Hindi )Vahinichya Bangdya' ( remade as Bhabhi ki choodiyan in hindi) Jait re Jait. There was this wonderful comedy about three thieves who take shelter in a simple villagers home and how their simplicity changes all of them. The film also had the great song ughad daar devaa aata..ughad daar deva let me know if you remember the name of the movie. Re: g_b Homosexuality Illegal, Declares Delhi HC
what you say is correct. it is difficult to prove a case of penetration amongst willing partners in thecourt. but cops can definately file a case against you {though it may not stand in court} which will take lot of your energy, money, patience, repute, social standing etc. is one ready to bear all this? in fact the cops n other blackmailers know this fact very well that we can not withstand all this humiliation. so they dare to exploit us just by threatening to file a case.btw, is there a history of anyone proved guilty of gay penetrative sex amongst willing partners? does anybody know of it?prashanth prabhakar [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Dear all,With the SC rejecting PIL against Section 377 ,Let us look at this weak law stmt from our Indian constitution"Whoever voluntarily has carnal intercourse against the order of nature with any man, woman or animal, shall be punished with 152[imprisonment for life], or with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to ten years, and shall also be liable to fine.Explanation- Penetration is sufficient to constitute the carnal intercourse necessary to the offence described in this section." -The indian law makers have conveniently the term "nature" to account for anything that they do not like.-First of all the legislation itself is weakly defined, since it does not define so called "natural penetration".. viz Wat do they mean by penetration (between whom, how, where ?? nothing is specified). Going by this law, -even heterosexual anal acts should be punishable???.-Gays who do not have any penetrative anal sex are not punishable either??(In which case if a male is caught having sex with another male, does the cop has to prove that they were having anal sex when they are produced in court?? )Since they do not entertain changing the legislation (according to their stmt),let us stick to this definition and argue against it-In nature , we find many organizms which indulge in "homosexual" acts.(http://www.androphile.org/preview/Library/Articles/Werner/Werner20.24.htm)-Recent studies have proved that there is some thing called as "gay genes" which are naturally inherited. -Out of world's total male population it is estimated around 10% is gay. This amounts to a big number and these many men are indulging in homosexual behaviour, you can hardly call it as "unnatural". -Its one of the nature's way of controlling Population explosion to maintain balance.-Above all, Its a right to live/freedom of _expression_. (Another fundamental right of all citizens of India)This open ended law results in discrimination and brutal behaviour against gay community. If you look at their reason for rejecting the plea they state, tat indian society does not tolerate homosexual behaviour ,hence we will not allow.Anyone who has read law would laugh at this stmt since the very basis of asking for revocation was to create more tolerance and acceptance in indian society An appeal is made obviously to improve something be it tolerance or economic growth. If they are concerned that by making it legal "society will be disturbed" they are only creating more havoc. Well why was the reservation policy introduced in such a big bang thro' mandal commission. was it not to improve the conditions of the minority?? I am sure (hopefully !!)that appealers of revocation of this law would have presented such statistical data.I am sure the committee comprises of conservative lot sitting over there who cannot even solve simple problems like water sharing btw states and fair Seat allocation to engineering institutions. Wat more can we expect??.Most of the developed nations have recognized the needs of gay community created various outlets like Discos/pubs,saunas, sex venues, laws, safe sex measures whereas india is even refusing to recognize even the existence of such people!!!. Imagine you are living with your boi friend in a house and if neighbours(conservative like the law makers) do not like us, complain to police and police will arrest us and imprison us as if we are criminals. Finally comes the big question can one a gay proud indian live in india peacefullyMaybe not in another 150 years..
