Stabs is rather obsolete and I don't personally care about it any more. As far
as I can tell from the source (GCC 5.3 and GDB 7.10), the problem (wrong CTR
numbering in stabs) is still there, but if it were up to me I wouldn't waste
any time on it.

There hasn't been any progress or activity on this bug in 10 years.  Is it
still a problem with a recent GCC or can the bug be closed?

The stabs numbering should probably match whatever AIX does.

This should work now for DWARF, so only stabs uses strange numbering.
