[brlug-general] pieces parts?

2010-09-21 Thread Joey Kelly
Guys,

Is there a computer parts wholesaler in Baton Rouge? We have a couple here
(Priority 1 and MicroPC) that I buy from, but I occasionally need stuff when
I'm in the big city.

What are you looking for? Bulk purchases, or you need a place where
you can run down and pick up a power supply and a stick of RAM? If
it's the latter, there's Computer Heaven just off Florida.

Does that place sell new parts? ISTR they sold scrapped parts out of bins back
in the 90s (but maybe I'm confusing them with another shop on Florida Blvd.).

New retail parts are nice if that's what that place sells, but I'm looking for
a wholesaler, since I own a service company.

You might try going by Formosa on Airline between Florida and I-12, North of
Old Hammond Hwy. Mike doesn't really do retail anymore but you might be able to
work out a wholesale deal with him.

Yeah, they totally sell new parts. I'm not sure what you mean by
wholesale, when I think wholesale, I think bulk. I bought a bunch of
OEM hard drives and optical drives from Computer Heaven a few months
ago. Their main business is repair service, but I was impressed by
their selection of parts, stuff I could definitely use in a pinch: ATX
power supply cable adapters/extenders, a huge selection of cables of
various length and gender combinations, VGA, DVI, USB, etc. CMOS
batteries, toolkits, yada yada.

And since I thought wholesale was ambiguous, I'll go ahead and say
that by OEM, I mean a new drive in an antistatic bag with no other
packaging.

But Formosa's worth a shot as well.

Bulk, shmulk. If I sell something to a client, be it a hard drive, USB cable
or an entire machine, I purchase it at Priority 1 in Elmwood, mark it up, and
still beat most other places they could get it from. Even better, if I throw
a busted part on their counter, they give me another one immediately and
handle the RMA themselves.

They sell both new and used... at least last time I went there 'round 2004
or so.
