Sep. Y2020 Hadoop Meetup in China

Hi,
Last year Aug, we had a very successful meetup in Beijing (
https://blogs.apache.org/hadoop) which help to promote hadoop user adoption
and development locally. This year, we would like to do it again in
Shanghai on 9/26.
 So if you have topic to share on hadoop development or some relevant
 interesting case. Please nominate it by replying this letter or contact me
directly. Slot is limited, first come first serve. Thanks!
  BTW, this meetup is plan to be offline. If many people want to share
but cannot come to Shanghai by then, we can plan something online later.

I am pleased to announce that the Apache Hadoop community has voted to

release Apache Hadoop 2.8.5!



Apache Hadoop 2.8.5 is the next GA release of Apache Hadoop 2.8 line, which
include

33 fixes identified for previous Hadoop 2.8.4 releases:

 - For major changes included in Hadoop 2.8 line, please refer Hadoop 2.8.5

main page [1].

 - For more details about fixes in 2.8.5 release, please read the log of

CHANGES [2] and RELEASENOTES [3].

from

Apache Hadoop 2.8.2 is the first GA release of Apache Hadoop 2.8 line and

newest stable release for entire Apache Hadoop project. For major changes

This release has 315 resolved issues since previous 2.8.1 release with

   - HDFS-9711, HDFS-8155, HDFS-9057 - WebHDFS enhancements
   - HDFS-9244 - Support nested encryption zones
   - HDFS-9239 - DataNode Lifeline Protocol

Hadoop YARN

   - YARN-41 - NM shutdown more graceful
   - YARN-313 - Full support for dynamic NM resource configuration
   - YARN-4349 - CallerContext support in YARN audit log

Hadoop MapReduce

   - MAPREDUCE-6304 - Allow node labels get specificed in submitting MR jobs
   - MAPREDUCE-6415 - Add a new tool to combine aggregated logs into HAR
files

This release has 2917 resolved issues with the following breakdown:

   - 774 in Hadoop Common
   - 1137 in HDFS
   - 774 in YARN
   - 232 in MapReduce

IMPORTANT NOTES
   - This release is *not* yet ready for production use. Issues are being
ironed
   out via testing and downstream adoption given numerous commits were
landing.
   Production users should wait for 2.8.1 release.

release Apache Hadoop 2.6.3.


Hadoop 2.6.3 is a continuing maintenance release in the Hadoop 2.6.x line
that builds on top of 2.6.3. It contains a number of critical fixes done by

community on and backported from the 2.7 line and from the ongoing 2.8 line.

Sun's java code convention (published in year of 97) suggest 80 column per
line for old-style terminals. It sounds pretty old, However, I saw some
developers (not me :)) like to open multiple terminals in one screen for
coding/debugging so 80-colum could be just fit. Google's java convention (
https://google-styleguide.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/javaguide.html#s4.4-column-limit)
shows some flexibility here with 80 or 100 column (and some exception
cases).
Like Chris mentioned early, I think this 80-column should just be a general
guideline but not a strict limit - we can break it if it hurts legibility
of code reading.
btw, some research work found that CPL (characters per line) only had small
effects on readability for news, including factors of speed and
comprehension (
http://psychology.wichita.edu/surl/usabilitynews/72/LineLength.asp). Not
sure if reading code is the same (assume break lines properly).
