Clean up users who are members of the incubator group and no other?
Hi, Doing some cleanup/checks for the graduated Flex podling, I noticed a number of users at http://people.apache.org/committer-index.html who are just members of the incubator group, and no other group (starting from the top: acs, acymbalak, aditzel, etc.) Is there a valid use case for this? To me it seems more like people who were involved in podlings that were retired, or people who left podlings before graduation - so it doesn't make sense for them to be members of the incubator group. I'm tempted to remove those folks from the incubator group, to better reflect reality - WDYT? -Bertrand - To unsubscribe, e-mail: general-unsubscr...@incubator.apache.org For additional commands, e-mail: general-h...@incubator.apache.org

I already made this change in SVN trunk so it'll automatically be picked up in future release. And also updated the 2013 copyright. Since, maven puts it in correct place in the artifacts during packaging, I presume this won't be a show stopper for the release? The location of the DISCLAIMER in the tar file looks fine. Minor issue - the text is all on one line. This makes it quite hard to read; please fix this for the next release. However, I have now had a look at the embedded NOTICE file. This is very long - it contains lots of unnecessary notices. For example, there is no need to credit OpenNLP or UIMA as these are covered under the second paragaph. The NOTICE file must only be used for *required* notices (whereas the LICENSE file must contain copies of all licences). Furthermore, the NL files should only contain entries which relate to software that is actually included in the archive. The NOTICE file should be as short as possible (but no shorter). AFAICT the archive does not include JUnit; there may be other missing references. The NOTICE file must only contain *required* notices for the enclosing archive - if the archive does not contain JUnit then the NOTICE file does not require any attribution. Even software that is included may not require an entry in the NOTICE file if the license does not specifically require it. The NL files are a vital part of ASF releases, so I think this should be fixed please. --Pei -Original Message- From: sebb [mailto:seb...@gmail.com] Sent: Wednesday, January 09, 2013 6:19 AM To: general@incubator.apache.org Subject: Re: [VOTE] Apache cTAKES 3.0.0-incubating RC4 release On 9 January 2013 01:38, Chen, Pei pei.c...@childrens.harvard.edu wrote: Sent from my iPad On Jan 8, 2013, at 8:18 PM, sebb seb...@gmail.com wrote: On 8 January 2013 22:19, Chen, Pei pei.c...@childrens.harvard.edu wrote: Hi, This is a call for a vote on releasing the following candidate as Apache cTAKES 3.0.0-incubating. The current state of the project provides something that works, but other projects in this field have more mindshare, and their code update and bug fix rate is much higher. I don't think association with Apache will provide much mutual future benefit. Three years ago, when Tashi began incubation, Tashi was one of the first projects to address the sharing of computing power, and was indeed groundbreaking. But the project received only negligible promotion from one of the groups initially sponsoring it, and other endeavours quickly gained features and mindshare. Tashi still has several advantages over them, but I as main contributor over the last year have moved on to other primary challenges, and feel that hosting on Sourceforge or Github would be more useful for a slow-moving project. Receiving fixes, gaining regular contributors and making releases should also be easier to effect outside of Apache. Hi, Following up from last quarter based on the January report in [1]. OK, let's keep an eye on the situation. Hopefully the newly arrived code and perhaps a release based on that can bring in more activity. As mentioned in the latest report, the activity unfortunately hasn't picked up too much even though there have been some positive signs lately. Here's my shepherd note on the report: Third consecutive quarter with low activity. There's some improvement over the previous quarter, as mentioned in the report, but turning that into sustainable community activity may take some effort (or luck). Is there anything the broader Incubator community could do to help? Have you considered cutting a release with the code you already have in place? That might help bring over some people who are now using OpenDDR. Apology in advance for last-minute report collation
Folks, In an effort to give people as much time as possible to fill in their reports, and due to a visiting child, I have been leaving the job of cleaning up and posting the report until the last minute (tomorrow) which means that I won't be giving you all a chance to review any remarks I write on the top. For this month, I'll just try to avoid controversy, and try to do better next time. - To unsubscribe, e-mail: general-unsubscr...@incubator.apache.org For additional commands, e-mail: general-h...@incubator.apache.org

RE: Tashi report for January 2013
Craig, There certainly are interested folks here. The Tashi software is used to manage several clusters of reasonable size. The one I manage is ~200 servers (http://opencirrus.intel-research.net). The current implementation is fairly stable. Hence, the lull in submissions last quarter. As Richard mentioned, activity should pick up this quarter.
